The Law Superstore is a leading legal services comparison website. Our panel of law firms provide customers with quotations for a large number of legal services including conveyancing, wills, probate, family matters, disputes, employment issues and much more.

The Law Superstore is owned and operated by Reallymoving, a leading comparison website for home moving services. We acquired the Law Superstore to increase our offering to our customers. We are looking for a Senior PHP Web Developer to join our friendly and collaborative team to help us maintain and add new features to The Law Superstore.

As well as PHP web development, the successful candidate will be responsible for system architecture, our Azure infrastructure and deployment processes. The Senior PHP Web Developer will be actively involved in scoping requirements and influencing future technology decisions as well as line managing a mid-level PHP Developer.

The role is offered on a hybrid basis requiring 2 days a week attendance at our office in central St Albans, a short walk from St Albans City station. You will also be required to attend the office for company team days and occasional ad-hoc meetings.

Education/qualifications

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in computer science or related subject or relevant commercial experience in a related role.

The key skills and experience we're looking for

We don't expect candidates to meet all the criteria below so if you are missing a few things, we'd still like to hear from you!
• Strong commercial experience in PHP (7.0+) web application development
• Proven expertise with frameworks, particularly Symfony (v2+) and Laravel (v6-12)
• Skilled in writing SQL and designing, managing, and optimising MySQL databases
• Experience working with Azure infrastructure and services
• Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps, including pipelines and boards
• Understanding and practical use of agile methodologies, especially Kanban
• Some AI literacy, with the ability to use AI code assistants to boost productivity and a willingness to develop these skills further
• Familiarity with modern development practices such as pair programming and test-driven development (TDD)
• Committed to writing clean, well-structured, and well-tested code, and able to foster that mindset in others
• Comfortable collaborating within a highly cross-functional, team-oriented environment
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all teams including senior leadership
• Passionate about software development and staying up to date with emerging technologies
• Able to partner with Business Analysts and Product Managers to scope projects, refine requirements, and define clear milestones
