Job Description

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is looking for a demonstrably experienced Physiotherapist to join their Neurology Rotation. This post would suit Band 5's looking to specialise or current Band 6's who would like to broaden their experience.

This rotational post covers both acute and community settings, giving you experience in all aspects of neuro-physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Areas covered are acute inpatient neurology, neurosurgery including neuro intensive care, Plym Neuro rehabilitation, Stroke rehab Unit and Community Neuro Rehab team. In all these areas, you will be supported by experienced clinicians who are specialists in their field.

The successful candidate will be joining a well-established team to deliver a seven-day physiotherapy service to patients as part of the wider multidisciplinary unit. Applicants would need to have a broad range of experience, including post-graduate experience in treating patients within neuro speciality.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high standard physiotherapy service to the neurology and neurosurgical clinical areas into which you have rotated. This involves working across the trust and peripheral sites in a range of settings providing a seven-day service to neurosciences.

To assist the Team Leaders in planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating the Physiotherapy Service provided to patients within the team, on a day-to-day basis.

To assess and treat own caseload of patients, who may have complex presentations, and maintain own records as an autonomous practitioner.

At times community / home visits may be required to be undertaken.

To deputise for the Team Leaders when necessary.

To perform an advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of MSK / outpatients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a clinical diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as Priority and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

Person Specification Knowledge and experience
  • Demonstrable post graduate experience in core rotations: Neurology or Neurosurgery, Acute Respiratory, Orthopaedics/MSK
  • Demonstrable experience of working in an acute hospital
  • Demonstrable experience of teaching
  • Previous demonstrable experience of working in Neurosurgical unit
  • Demonstrable experience working with tracheostomy patients
  • Clinical educator.
Qualifications
  • Degree (BSc Hons Physiotherapy) or equivalent.
  • HCPC registration
  • Attendance at additional relevant professional courses
  • MSc relevant to the area
  • Professional manner
  • Demonstrates effective and adaptable communication skills including written and verbal
  • Proven evidence of using initiative.
