Senior Medical Scientist - Full Time

Location: Bon Secours Hospital Limerick. 35 hours per week. Salary: €68,007.00 - €89,790.00 (depending on experience).

Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to promote and preserve Bon Secours mission, values (Human Dignity, Integrity, Compassion, Stewardship and Service) through effective delivery of mission objectives as a Senior Medical Scientist.

Candidate Criteria and Qualifications

• BSc in Science (Applied Science) Honours degree.
• Master's level qualification in a relevant area (essential).

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in the organization and coordination of the Haematology/Blood Transfusion service.
• Assist in the implementation and maintenance of a quality management system in Haematology/Blood Transfusion.
• Participate in developing the Haematology/Blood Transfusion service to meet clinical needs and align with the hospital's mission, vision, and values.
• Participate in training staff and leading a team of skilled staff, fostering healthy working relationships.
• Implement operational processes to best practice standards, optimizing resource use.
• Implement a quality management programme that is patient centred, measures and audits performance and client satisfaction.
• Actively participate in and promote continuing education and research activities aligned with hospital values.
• Promote open communication throughout the hospital.
• Demonstrate behaviour consistent with the hospital's values.
• Ensure all samples are processed following standard operating procedures and maintain strict confidentiality.
• Follow policy on Haematology Laboratory record keeping.
• Evaluate assays, equipment, consumable items and research projects.
• Assist in training students from relevant college courses with the Laboratory Manager.
• Participate in internal and external quality control and assurance.
• Provide statistical and management information as required.
• Assist in developing the laboratory information system for the department.
• Participate in the out of hours on call rota (mandatory).
• Ensure effective safety procedures comply with Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act and hospital mission.
• Assist in developing procedures for preventing and managing laboratory accidents.
• Perform duties ensuring compliance with ISO 15189, JCI accreditation standards and medical device directives.
