Job Description

Our client is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the team and support the development of innovative products designed for harsh and demanding environments.

This role is ideal for a self-motivated engineer who can work autonomously, collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams, and take ownership of designs from concept through to manufacture. You will be responsible for designing enclosures and mechanisms for environments including extreme temperatures, marine conditions, and military-standard applications, using SolidWorks to create production-ready designs and documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical components, enclosures, assemblies, and mechanisms in SolidWorks.
  • Produce detailed technical drawings, BoMs, assembly instructions, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Develop prototypes, test fixtures, and product specifications.
  • Conduct mechanical testing, verification, and reporting.
  • Review designs and drawings to ensure quality and manufacturability.
  • Support production and manufacturing teams with troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with our machine shop, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to deliver project objectives.
  • Support Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and design improvements.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven mechanical design experience in a product development environment.
  • Strong SolidWorks skills, including 3D modelling, technical drawings, and BoM creation.
  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, coatings, fasteners, and design for manufacture and assembly.
  • Experience producing clear technical documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to justify design decisions through calculations and engineering analysis.
  • Experience developing and carrying out product testing and validation.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Ability to travel between Ware and Sandy when required.

Desirable

  • Experience designing to IP67 requirements.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD or harsh-environment product design.
  • FEA and thermal simulation experience.
  • Knowledge of machining, sheet metal fabrication, Laser cutting, and 3D printing.
