Position Overview
Our client is seeking a qualified Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel to join their European legal team in Madrid. This position will play a key role in supporting the legal function for large-scale renewable energy projects, including permitting, grid access, contracts, and M&A.
Key Responsibilities
- Permitting & Legal Compliance
- Manage legal aspects of project permitting for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and photovoltaic (PV) projects. Coordinate internal and external resources to secure permits, licenses, and other government authorizations.
- Grid Connection & Contract Management
- Support access and connection to the grid. Draft, review, and negotiate key agreements, including:
- Land agreements
- Supply contracts
- EPC and BOS contracts
- Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)
- M&A Transactions
- Lead or support legal due diligence and transactional documentation for mergers and acquisitions.
- Corporate Legal Matters
- Handle general corporate legal issues and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Disputes & Litigation
- Support or lead legal proceedings including litigation and arbitration as needed.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum of 7 years of legal experience in the renewable energy sector in Spain, preferably in a law firm or within an energy company.
- Proven experience in renewable project development (solar, wind, energy storage), particularly in managing permitting and development documentation.
- Strong familiarity with legal aspects of project lifecycle: land acquisition, investment permits, grid access, environmental assessments, construction licensing, and operational certifications.
- Knowledge in company corporate law.
- Experience in legal aspects of EPC contracts.
- Experience with legal due diligence for renewable energy assets, M&A is highly desirable.
- Experience with EU Funding Applications would be a big plus.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and coordination skills.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written); Spanish fluency is essential.
