Senior Lead Engineer - Capacity Market Design

The Opportunity

The Future Markets team delivers thought leadership and large programmes of work to support Ireland's renewable targets. Current projects include:

• Future Arrangements for System Services - new procurement of innovative System Services to enable high levels of low carbon technologies and meet 2030 targets.
• Scheduling and Dispatch - design changes to core market and operational systems for non priority dispatch renewables, wind dispatch, energy storage, low carbon inertia and reserves.
• European Integration - integration with the EU following the Celtic Interconnector in 2026.
• SEM GB - post Brexit arrangements for the SEM market interconnection with GB.
• Capacity Market Programme - cross border participation, operational changes, decarbonisation, collaboration with regulators and stakeholders.
• Net Zero Market Transition - positioning on electricity policy with CRU and DECC for 2050 net zero carbon emissions.
• Tariff Policy - development of new tariff arrangements and response to EU guidance on tariffication and network charges reduction.

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with workstream leads to coordinate delivery of Future Markets initiatives.
• Collaborate across the team and organisation to deliver changes to the Capacity Market Design.
• Lead the design for cross border arrangements to ensure EU regulatory compliance.
• Lead updates of the Capacity Market Code to reflect decarbonisation changes from SEMC.
• Support engagement with government departments on State Aid.
• Provide market policy and design analysis with modelling evidence.
• Lead modelling of intended changes to the Capacity Market.
• Prepare and present quality materials to internal and external stakeholders.
• Deliver progress reports to management and oversee required changes.
• Support the wider Future Markets team when needed.
• Demonstrate behaviours that support the organization's culture.
• Build strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

About You

• Degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, quantitative analytics, economics or related field with 6 years post degree experience.
• Extensive experience with the Capacity Market on the island of Ireland or another EU country.
• Experience in adequacy modelling (e.g., ERAA or NERA).
• Experience converting high level design/specifications into vendor engagement specifications.
• Excellent problem solving and analysis skills.
• Strong understanding of the Capacity Market Code modification process.
• Sound knowledge of the Capacity Market Auction process.
• Extensive experience drafting, writing and presenting technical and non technical reports.
• Strong communication and influencing skills with internal and external stakeholders.
• Flexibility and agility to manage multiple issues simultaneously.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as a team member.
• Strong understanding of the Single Electricity Market.
