About the job Job summaryEnterprise Services is a portfolio within the Home Office that provides a vast array of technological products and services, and is dedicated to serving other portfolios and business units across the Home Office. Within Enterprise Services (ES), the Cyber Team is responsible for securing Home Office cloud platforms through the implementation and ongoing maintenance of advanced security technologies. The Endpoint Experience team is the front end to all Home Office systems and services from the client perspective. We ensure end user devices and operating systems deliver a great experience and meet security and architecture standards. We design secure by default solutions, creating tailored controls and customisations for each area's needs. Our work covers laptops, smartphones, kiosks, virtual environments, and the core applications that run across these platforms.
Where business needs allows some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home based working. Where this is the case, employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in the office.

A Senior Infrastructure Engineer builds, administers, transitions, supports and maintains infrastructure services throughout the service lifecycle, according to the departmental policy and Home Office strategy.
Your main focus initially will be to work in a small team to promote and support the onboarding of assets to a Cyber Protective Monitoring service. You will act as a security platform expert within our security technology services team, offering specialised knowledge in administration, support, and the execution of project and product deliverables. Our team is committed to advancing intelligent solutions by utilising cutting edge security capabilities.
You will build, manage, support and maintain solutions according to departmental policy and foster open feedback and continuous learning with service support to ensure continuous improvement. You will contribute to management activities such as workforce planning, budgeting, technology roadmaps, projects and tasks.

Main responsibilities
- Designing, implementing, administering and supporting infrastructure technologies and solutions such as: compute, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, cloud, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and open-source packages and solutions.
- Reviewing the systems designs of others to ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources and integration of multiple systems and technology.
- Defining the integration build and coordinate build activities across systems and understand how to undertake and support integration testing activities.
- Initiating and monitoring actions to investigate patterns and trends to resolve problems, including consulting specialists where required. Identify the appropriate remedy and assist with implementation of fixes as well as preventative measures.
- Identifying the correct procedures and appropriate channels for resolution and monitor resolution activities and progress updates to users.
- Coaching and mentoring more junior infrastructure engineers, participating in their appraisal and related performance management processes.
Like many organisations we need to maintain our services 24/7, therefore, on occasions there may be a requirement to work out of hours, for which you will be paid an additional allowance.
