Ferrovial is seeking a Senior HSW Advisor for the HS2 Edgcote (OX17 2HL) and T2G project (NN13 5JE) teams. The project involves civils works, with hazards including heavy lifting, plant interface, working at height, temporary works, and flood plain conditions.

Job Description

Senior HSW Advisor responsible for health, safety and wellbeing (HSW) on the allocated project, reporting to the HSW Manager and coordinating with the client, supply chain, and other stakeholders to ensure effective HSW communication and implementation on site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee project HSW activities with direct reporting to the HSW Manager.
  • Provide competent health and safety advice and support to the allocated project.
  • Develop relationships with the project client, supply chain and stakeholders to ensure effective HSW communication.
  • Promote company values and maintain Safe Working practices in dealings with employees, clients and subcontractors.
  • Chair and contribute to site meetings, forums and workshops representing the project on HSW matters.
  • Identify and mitigate HSW risks during the construction phase.
  • Assist in maintaining and improving strategies, policies, and procedures in line with best practice and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure project records comply with company procedures and legal minimum requirements.
  • Monitor and close out H&S reviews and audits within prescribed timescales.
  • Participate in Health, Safety & Environment audits as requested by the HSW Manager.
  • Monitor site inspections and ensure timely close-out of the rota.
  • Undertake weekly HSW inspection reports and communicate key findings to the HSW Manager and Site Team.
  • Advise the HSW Manager of onsite incidents and follow the Project Emergency Escalation.
  • Lead on local investigation reports and contribute to formal investigation reports with robust findings and remedial actions.
  • Manage HSW KPI data, analyze trends, and support action plans; upload data to company/client systems.
  • Review risk assessments and method statements / task briefs for subcontractors and planned works.
  • Review project plans and help maintain HSW accreditations.
  • Lead site inductions where necessary and provide environmental and sustainability safety guidance on-site.
  • Assist the HSW Manager in developing visual standards.
Skills and Experience
  • Experience as a Health and Safety Advisor in Construction / Civils.
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering environments.
  • NEBOSH Construction (desirable) or equivalent health & safety qualification; NEBOSH General is acceptable.
  • Valid CSCS Card.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage at multiple levels, including with clients.
  • Technical capability to contribute to problem solving complex safe systems of work.
  • Strong influencing and relationship-building skills across all levels.
  • Active listening, reflection and questioning skills to coach managers, supervisors and staff.
  • Hands-on approach with working knowledge of ISO45001 (desirable).
  • Understanding of accident investigation techniques.
  • Minimum Tech IOSH (working towards Grad IOSH).
