Are you an experienced HSEQ and training professional looking for a role where you can take ownership of an established function and continue to shape it as the business grows?

If so, this could be the opportunity for you.

HSE Recruitment Network are recruiting for a Health, Safety, Environment, Quality & Training Senior on behalf of a growing UK infrastructure and specialist contracting business. This is a key appointment with responsibility for leading and developing the organisation's health, safety, environmental, quality and training function.

The successful candidate will inherit an established platform of systems, processes and standards, with responsibility for maintaining, monitoring and continuously improving these arrangements across the business. The role will involve working closely with directors, divisional leaders, operational managers and site-based teams to strengthen engagement, compliance and operational performance.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead all aspects of the health, safety, environmental, quality and training function across the business.

  • Maintain, develop and continuously improve existing HSEQ systems, processes and standards.

  • Take ownership of the company's ISO management systems and lead auditor responsibilities across relevant accreditations, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

  • Plan, coordinate and lead internal audits, support external accreditation audits and ensure findings, corrective actions and continual improvement plans are effectively managed.

  • Ensure the business remains compliant with relevant legislation, accreditation requirements, client standards and internal procedures.

  • Improve safety behaviours and promote genuine ownership of health and safety across operational teams.

  • Support site teams with briefings, point-of-work risk assessments, inspections and audits.

  • Review audit findings and ensure appropriate actions are tracked through to completion.

  • Investigate incidents and support the business following serious events or client escalations.

  • Work closely with operational managers, divisional leaders and directors to drive improvement.

  • Build positive relationships with site teams and help them see HSEQ as a support function rather than a policing function.

  • Provide clear reporting, constructive challenge and practical guidance at senior level.

  • Work with clients, auditors and other interested parties to support effective planning, compliance and continuous improvement.

  • Support the ongoing development of a strong HSEQ and training culture as the business continues to grow.

Essential Experience:

  • Proven experience in a senior HSEQ, Health & Safety or similar leadership role.

  • Strong background in managing health, safety, environmental, quality and training systems within a complex operational environment.

  • Experience taking ownership of ISO management systems and leading audit activity for accreditations such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

  • Experience planning and conducting internal audits, supporting external audits and managing corrective actions through to completion.

  • Experience influencing behaviour and engaging with people at all levels of a business.

  • Confidence working with operational teams, senior stakeholders, clients and external auditors.

  • A proactive, collaborative approach with the ability to provide challenge when required.

  • NEBOSH qualification or equivalent.

  • Full right to work in the UK is required.

Desirable Experience:

  • Background in construction, infrastructure, highways, utilities or a similar operational environment.

  • Experience with heavy plant, lifting operations, excavation or work at height.

  • Experience or formal training as a Lead Auditor for relevant ISO management systems.

  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, NERS or similar management systems.
