Senior Financial Controller - Amsterdam

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Controller to join the FinTech Accounting team for a fixed-term contract of 11 months. This team oversees financial reporting for global payment processing related to customer transactions with service providers (such as accommodation, flights, and attractions).

In this role, you will help lead the accounting function, report to the Senior Manager, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams. The focus is on delivering accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and driving process improvements to support the continued growth of payment products.

The ideal candidate has strong leadership capabilities, in-depth knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial close processes, and compliance with SOx. Excellent communication and people management skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the month-end close process for your assigned areas and ensure timely reporting to senior leadership.

• Review and approve reconciliations in compliance with US GAAP and SOx standards.

• Work with Risk & Control, Internal Audit, and External Audit teams to maintain and improve compliance controls.

• Collaborate with senior finance and business stakeholders to align on reporting needs and priorities.

• Manage the relationship with Group Reporting, ensuring high-quality and timely financial submissions.

• Support and coordinate the financial audit process by liaising with auditors and preparing deliverables.

• Drive the creation and improvement of global accounting processes with a focus on standardization, automation, and efficiency.

• Lead and participate in cross-functional innovation and improvement projects related to global accounting.

• Apply sound understanding of the balance sheet and P&L to ensure proper accounting treatment and collaboration with stakeholders.

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of GL and Senior GL Accountants, supporting their tasks, development, and performance.

• Complete ad-hoc finance tasks and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

• University degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Economics.

• Post-graduate qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent preferred.

• 10+ years of experience in finance or accounting, ideally in a multinational company.

• Strong understanding of US GAAP, IFRS, and SOx internal control frameworks.

• Proven experience in managing accounting teams and providing on-the-job training and coaching.

• Experience in online payments or FinTech accounting is an advantage.

• Strong planning, prioritization, and organizational skills.

• Ability to influence and build relationships with senior stakeholders.

• Self-motivated, proactive, and driven with a high level of personal accountability.

• Fluent in spoken and written English.

• Experience working with financial systems such as SAP, S/4HANA, or FICA is highly desirable.
