Role Title: Senior Environment Interface Engineer

We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Senior Environment Interface Engineer, to be involved in the compliance for game changing technology within the nuclear industry.

As an Environmental Interface Engineer you will play a key role in supporting the development of and licensing the Rolls-Royce Small Modular Reactor (RR SMR) by:
  • Providing environmental assessment and advice to engineers to ensure the RR SMR applies Best Available Techniques (BAT).
  • Developing and maintaining Environment and Decommissioning Design Principles and requirements, ensuring they input into the design.
  • Proactively driving environmental and decommissioning requirements into design activities and provide advice and guidance in support of Engineering and others.
  • Producing technical documentation in support of the environmental chapters of the fully integrated Environment, Safety, Security and Safeguards (E3S) case and supporting interactions with external stakeholders.
Key Results & Achievements
  • Support the development of environmental and decommissioning design requirements, internal technical standards and guidance.
  • Technical review of engineering documents with respect to Environmental and Decommissioning Principles and requirements.
  • Effectively participate in optioneering workshops, HAZOP workshops and the design decision process for plants and systems to:
  • Support design justification and help ensure that design proposals represent BAT and ALARP.
  • Provide technical advice and support on environmental and decommissioning requirements; and environment protection function(s).
  • Produce or oversee environmental assessments to support the production of environment chapters for E3S case and GDA.
  • Prepare and respond to queries from customers and regulators and attend external stakeholder meetings.

Key Selection Criteria

UK Regulatory Regime
  • Experience of working within the UK environmental regulatory framework on a licensed nuclear site and experience of nuclear decommissioning.
  • A good understanding of the development of environment, safety or integrated E3S cases coupled with a good understanding of the environmental permitting regulations.
Optioneering and Environmental Assessment
  • Ability to support design optioneering through the development of robust BAT and ALARP arguments; and HAZOP workshops by identifying environmental hazards, risks and mitigation strategies.
Fast Paced Multidisciplinary Environments
  • Experience of working closely with engineering and multidisciplinary teams to develop an integrated engineering and safety solution to tight deadlines.
Communication Skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to be able to represent the project both internally and externally, experience of engaging with broad range of stakeholders.
Training & Qualification Requirements
  • Degree in engineering or scientific discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Chartered or working towards Chartered status with a professional engineering, or equivalent, body.

Pay and benefits We anticipate paying a salary of between £48,000 - £62,500 DOE plus:-
  • Bonus - Performance related target opportunity 12.5%
  • Benefits Allowance - £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package
  • Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
  • Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.
