This role is for a Senior Engineering Manager where you'll be a manager of managers. You will lead across multiple teams in an org of around 20-30 people. We're expanding, and your role as Senior EM will be to grow and build new squads as needed. Your direct reports will include Tech Leads, Senior Engineers, and 2-3 Engineering Managers.
Responsibilities- Delivery and Execution: Own accountability for delivery across your squad(s), collaborating with the Technical Lead and Product Manager.
- Engineering and Operational Excellence: Drive a high bar for engineering excellence within your teams. You are accountable for the technical outcomes your teams deliver alongside engineer performance and growth.
- People Leadership: Have experience directly managing 2-3 Engineering Managers and leading organizations of around 20 engineers. Support, coach and develop them through regular 1:1s and continuous feedback.
- Technical Influence: Partner with senior engineers to drive technical initiatives that raise the bar for engineering practices.
- Stakeholder Relationships: Build strong relationships with other teams and create focus spaces for engineers to do their best work.
- Organizational Wide Impact: Collaborate with the wider engineering organization to contribute to company-wide managerial and technical practices and standards.
We recognise that Senior Engineering Managers lead in different ways. We're looking for someone adept at:

- People Leadership: experience managing 2-3 Engineering Managers and leading 20 engineers, with regular coaching and feedback.
- Technical Influence: drive technical initiatives with senior engineers.
- Stakeholder Relationships: strong collaboration with other teams to enable engineers to do their best work.
- Organizational Wide Impact: contribute to company-wide practices and standards.
Locations & Flexible Working: Our main tech hub is London, but engineers live across the UK. There is no pressure to come into the office; we support costs if you need to travel to the office. Offices are social, with regular in-person events and team time in person or online.

Interview ProcessAfter an initial informal recruiter call, you'll go through two main stages:
- Initial Call (1 hour): Meet with a Senior Engineering Manager or Engineering Director. Discuss leadership experience, product delivery, and technical leadership with example-based questions.
- Loop Stage (3 hours 30 mins): Three interviews (60 minutes each) plus a 30-minute reverse interview over 1-2 days: Team and Org Management, System Design, Behavioral, and Chat with an Engineering Leader.
