JOB PURPOSE

  • The SeniorEngineeris responsible forday-to-daymanagement of theEngineersandtosupport development and delivery ofthePort'sstrategically aligned engineeringmaintenance plan.The SeniorEngineeris responsible in ensuringbest practice, supporting the development of the Port's procedures andcontinually developto ensure there is a process of continualimprovement.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be the central point of contact for lead advisors and stakeholdersforday-to-dayengineering related work.
  • The role requires interfacing between internal departments and external agencies, such as Architects, Engineers, Construction Workers, Sub-contractors, Client agents, Clerk ofWorks,and Site Staff, as well as some coordination of sub-contractors to ensurePortobligations tothesub-contractor are understood and discharged.
  • Work closely withthe operational teamsand Head of Engineeringtodevelop objectives,strategies,andleadmultiyearmaintenance plans.
  • Support the project teamand wider businesswith specialist technical knowledge and advice.
  • Leadon development of engineering workssupporting the Porttodeliver excellence.
  • Mentoring of team members and wider business.
  • Support the Head of Engineeringtodevelop andgain agreement to an Asset Management strategy that ensures the short, medium, and long-term plans are setanddeveloped in line withoperational and strategic requirements.
  • Facilitate workshops toestablishrequirements and solution options to support the Portto develop Business cases and plans to deliver.
  • Preparationand developmentof design briefs,cost plans,commissions,and specifications for work packages for development works, including investigations, architectural and structuraldesign,and construction, working with the Procurement Manager.
  • Preparingscopesforengineeringworks, looking atoptions,costs, time, environmentalimpact,and risk assessments.
  • Technically proficient and have a problem-solving mind.
  • Adhere to/championthe Port's financial,procurement,projectand managementpolicies.
  • Ensuring thatengineering solutionsadhere to current standards including health and safety requirements.
  • Manage full compliance with CDM regulations including maintenance of all relevant documentation records.
  • Engineeringsupporttothe Port'swith clearly defined plans andclearcommunication.
  • Build working relationships between teams to ensure flexible working practices across the Port.
  • Foster a culture of development where 'experts' share their knowledge and develop others.
  • Proactively seek to develop your skills in line with the role requirements and changes inbest practice andtechnology.

  • Be alert to all possiblesafetyrisks, raising any concerns and reporting events through the Assurance Framework.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Degree (or equivalentexperience) inan engineeringdiscipline.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional organisation.
  • Several years relevant postgraduate experience
  • Methodical approach with attention to detail.
  • Hands on approach to problem resolution.
  • Delivery of alternative solutions and value engineering, enhancingthe Port'spositionin line with the business requirements.
  • Be able to analyse complex problems and critically evaluate solutions.
  • Be able to visualise and explaintechnicalsolutionsandtailoring the information to the level of the recipient.
  • Strong decision-making skillsbut being aware of their technical limitations and knowing when to refer.
  • Excellent communication skillsand stakeholder managementat all levels.
  • Be able to categorise, prioritise,plan,and implementeffectively.
  • Ensure that theEngineering plansare always communicated and understood by theoperational teams,project teams,and wider business.
  • Beresponsible for theEngineeringbudgets and workwiththe Head of Engineering to setmultiyearbudgetsand deliver withinagreedbudgetarytolerances.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills.
  • Have(or be willing to develop)a comprehensive understanding of best practice and current standards within building and engineering.
  • Experienceof change management and processes.
  • Provenengineeringproject experience at office and site level.
  • Significant experience managing multiple complexengineeringprojects andon occasionwithmultimillion-poundbudgets.
  • Trackrecord of managing teams to successfully deliver complexengineering workthrough strong leadership and line management capability.
  • Demonstrate leadingengineeringmanagementmethodology and leadership.
  • Experience runninglarge scaleEngineeringprojects usingNECcontractsas the client.
  • Good delegation andresourcemanagement skills.
