The OperationsDirectorate is central to the delivery of our primary role - the operation, development and enhancement of the all-island power system and the wholesale electricity market. Creating a culture of continuous improvement whilst maintaining operational resilience that drives technical and process innovation is central to delivering on this role. System Support & Analysis is a team that manages a wide range of technical and commercial management functions. This includes the imperfections budget setting and reporting, annual tariff calculations, commissioning, testing and registration of market units, running DS3 system service auctions, technical performance management of service providers, meter/market data checking as per relevant codes and renewables reporting and analysis and settlement. The team also provides support to System Operations and Markets as required and is a source of expertise for future development work across the business, ranging from supporting new systems to major projects. The team deals with ad hoc queries that do not naturally sit in other functions but require technical/commercial analysis to effectively answer. This is an excellent opportunity for innovative, solution-focused, resilient, and motivated individuals to join our team and play a key role in the transition to a low carbon energy future.

Key Responsibilities
  • You will support complex projects, both technical and commercial, which are designed to achieve regulated targets and meet stakeholder needs in line with company requirements.
  • You will develop policy, processes and procedures, for the registration, commissioning, testing and performance monitoring of system users including generators, interconnectors and demand customers.
  • Execute technical and economic analysis associated with forecasting imperfections and tariffs and explain what costs are incurred in actual outcomes.
  • You will carry out technology reviews, draft technical specifications and develop business requirements.
  • Support ancillary service market participation in Ireland for generators and DS3 service providers including management of revenue streams and associated technical products.
  • You will represent EirGrid on key pan-European TSO committees and working groups focusing on system services or emergency restoration, set up to realise the development of a well-functioning Europe-wide electricity power system and market.

  • You will apply your skills, knowledge and experience to effectively deliver on your team's objectives, overcoming new challenges and technical issues as they arise.
  • You will use your technical, report writing and verbal communications skills to continuously improve the way we work, making it more efficient and effective as well as transparent and easy to understand for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • You will perform all work to a high standard with a focus on on time delivery, applying process excellence to deliver efficiency and quality output.
  • Anticipate and mitigate problems as they arise, escalating where necessary.
  • You will approach problem solving with an innovative mindset, being open to a wide range of solutions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Essential
  • Engineering degree or equivalent, with a minimum of 4 years post qualification experience in the electricity industry, especially system operations or markets.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical power systems and awareness of energy targets and ambitions for decarbonisation of the energy sector.

  • Ability to deliver medium/large projects.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work effectively as part of a team, capable of delivering shared goals with internal and external stakeholders through open dialogue, while also being able to define and guide own work under minimal supervision.
  • Good oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to a non technical audience.
