Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Engineer to work in AMIC's Sustainable Polymer and Composite team to lead projects being delivered as part of AMIC's advanced manufacturing activities. We're excited to be expanding the team throughout 2025 and beyond.JOB PURPOSE AND IMPACT: We are seeking engineers who want to innovate and apply their knowledge to the challenges of industry and society to support the delivery of industrially focused composite projects within AMIC's advanced manufacturing activities.As a Senior Engineer will apply your specialist knowledge and experience of 3D weaving processes, textile preform design and process validation to generate innovative research outputs which have a direct economic and technical benefit to companies and sectors. You will work collaboratively with the sustainable polymer and composite team, wider AMIC team, industry partners, technology providers, national technology centres and academia to deliver key projects focused on advanced technical textiles for composite structures.About the person: Honours degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline, science, or a related discipline with significant relevant industrial experience or minimum HND in a related engineering discipline with extensive recent and relevant industrial experience in technical textiles or composite preform manufacturing.Demonstrable experience and in-depth understanding of 3D weaving processes and technical textile engineering requirements for composite applications.Evidence of applying process knowledge to develop or improve woven preform designs, weaving methods or textile manufacturing technologies, with demonstrated ability to identify and implement cost reductions and efficiency gains within textile or composite preform manufacturing.Experience of using relevant software packages for textile design and loom operation, including the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and work to close tolerances.Proven ability in setting up, operating, maintaining, testing, diagnosing and repairing textile weaving equipment and systems with experience leading the analysis, design and modification of complex components and systems within textile structures and loom systems.Demonstrable evidence of working on a range of 3D weaving and technical textile projects including new preform development and the integration of woven textile structures into composite products.Knowledge and practical application of safety systems, risk management, and COSHH requirements relevant to textile manufacturing and composite processing workshop environments.Demonstrable evidence of design for manufacture in technical textiles, including concept development for woven preforms, and selection of suitable weaving process approaches to meet customer requirements for structural performance, quality, cost, cycle time and delivery.Proven ability to work with textile equipment suppliers and cross-functional teams to ensure weaving process and composite manufacturing requirements for 3D woven structures to meet quality, performance, and delivery standards.Demonstrable evidence of delivering projects to agreed deadlines within budget, and to required quality standards, including coordinating technical activities and leading project teams where required to manage risks and achieve project objectives.Evidence of complex problem-solving skills in a textile engineering or composite manufacturing environment, including troubleshooting of weaving equipment, process parameters and structural design challenges.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce high-quality technical reports, technical drawings and convey complex technical information clearly to a range of stakeholders.
