Senior Engagement Manager (Capacity Building)

£57,785 - £69,365 per annum

About the role

Are you a passionate, organised and confident leader in the public engagement sector? Do you enjoy supporting academics and students to develop their engagement skills? If so, you could join our collaborative and dynamic Public and Community Engagement Team as the Senior Engagement Manager (Capacity Building).

What you would be doing

This exciting and varied role is central to the achievement of Imperial's strategic goal to embed a culture of societal engagement across the university. Imperial's research is ground-breaking - together with our partners we are tackling society's biggest challenges, making life-changing advancements in health, sustainability and AI. Be part of creating meaningful and lasting societal impact as we establish the new Centre for Societal Engagement at Imperial. As the Senior Engagement Manager (Capacity Building), you will manage a wide programme of initiatives that enable staff and students to engage society with Imperial's work.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading our staff and student training portfolio
  • Coordinating our annual staff awards in engagement and seed funding
  • Overseeing internal communications channels and networks
  • Reviewing programme evaluation and making improvements

Managing a team of subject experts and associated budgets

  • Has a passion for public and community engagement and the beneficial role it plays in research
  • Enjoys working across multiple areas of work with an organised and strategic approach
  • Is confident running training, chairing meetings and giving presentations
  • Is collaborative, supportive and has great people skills, including giving bespoke advice and guidance
  • Can use initiative, problem-solve and lead a team to deliver goals.

The Public and Community Engagement team sit within the Societal Engagement Division of Imperial and support staff and students across the university to engage the public with their work and research. We deliver events, festivals, school holiday programmes and activities for adults, young people, community groups, families and more. To support our colleagues to develop engagement skills, we run training, seed funds, awards and networks. Our team is friendly, creative and passionate, and we value diversity of voices and ideas in all areas of our work.

Further information

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week).

This maternity cover role is for a fixed-term contract for 12 months, ideally starting February 2026.
