Job Description

Reporting to: Publishing Manager/Head of Publishing, SparkPool

Location: Cottage Farm, Mears Ashby Road, Sywell, Northamptonshire, NN6 0BJ

Working pattern: Hybrid - minimum of two days per week in the office; up to three days per week working from home

General Summary

As a Senior Editor, you will play a pivotal role in the growth of our SparkPool publishing programme - the Adult imprint of Igloo Books - delivering high-quality work in line with the vision of the list, contributing to the strategic growth of SparkPool and supporting the company's goals.

With a proven track record of project management in the publishing industry, you will possess a deep understanding of market trends, audience preferences and the evolving publishing landscape.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and coordinate books and products as briefed by the Head of Publishing and publishing briefing team.
  • Research, write, copy-edit, proofread and sign off a variety of products across formats.
  • Ensure all files meet editorial accuracy and quality standards at every stage.
  • Apply house style consistently and fulfil project briefs.
  • Manage high-complexity projects (format or content) with a publishing partner.
  • Monitor and maintain schedules to ensure timely delivery of final files.
  • Brief and coordinate third-party contributors, including packagers, illustrators, authors and freelancers.
About You
  • Demonstrable experience in an editorial or commercial role within publishing.
  • Strong understanding of market trends, consumer demands, formats and relevant subject matter.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Expert understanding of editorial processes and copy-editing standards.
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and MS Office Suite.
  • Strong awareness of formats, age ranges and subject matter.
  • Demonstrable passion for creating engaging and fun content.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a dynamic, proactive and team-oriented approach.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.
