Data and Student Analytics supports stakeholders from across the University by enabling them to make evidence-based decisions using insight and analytics. You will be working in a team which is responsible for developing a suite of web-based applications which initially support stakeholders in understanding student behaviour and performance.

In this role you will be interacting with a cross-functional team that is developing innovative applications using the latest in technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Front End Web Development to create high-quality data and insight applications for staff and students.
  • Leverage Azure suite to develop Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) conforming to The Open University's API standards.
  • Implement continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to automate software delivery and streamline the development process.
  • Develop applications ready for adoption, collaborating with Business and IT to transition services effectively, in an agile delivery environment.
  • Produce and/or review designs for systems which are feasible and cost effective and meet requirements.
  • Produce outputs that adheres to industry standards and quality requirements
  • Participate in a collaborative development process that includes peer code reviews.
  • Assist the delivery manager in removing blockers by collaborating across stakeholders and providers.
  • Provide technical input to the analysis of business partner requirements.
  • Develop, document, communicate, and enforce technology standards policies.
  • Liaise with IT teams to resolve any cross-function design issues and escalate, if necessary.
  • Liaise with stakeholders, as appropriate to enable delivery of high-quality applications.
  • Provide estimates as part of the estimation process for development activities.
  • Provide technical support in incident and problem resolution.
Skills and Experience
  • Substantial experience in .NET and Angular frameworks, and building web applications
  • Comprehensive experience working with MVC architecture
  • Knowledge and experience of good web and user interface design and web standards.
  • Solid understanding of version control using GIT and experience of creating CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD), including automated unit testing and integration testing.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary development teams using multiple related technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience of software engineering tools, practises, methods and standards including some of but not limited to Cloud IaaS, PaaS and SaaS Services, infrastructure as code, continuous integration, continuous delivery.
  • Able to demonstrate the full range of system engineering skills from design to post-implementation support.
  • Knowledge and experience of creating and applying standards and best practice in IT delivery.
  • Knowledge of systems reliability and performance engineering especially in a cloud context
  • Proven understanding of Azure DevOps
  • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Experience of working in the Higher Education sector.
  • Knowledge of Azure workstack, ensuring efficient data storage and retrieval in a cloud environment.
  • Familiarity with OData standards to enable consistent and efficient data access.
  • Certified as a Cloud Developer from a reputed public cloud.

It is anticipated that a hybrid working pattern can be adopted for this role, where the successful candidate can work from home and the office. However, as this role is contractually aligned to our Milton Keynes office it is expected that some attendance in the office will be required on a regular basis. We expect this to be on average 2 to 3 times per month, however some flexibility is required here, in response to business needs.
