Job Description
Senior Design Engineer for Microelectronics and Embedded Systems Design for Medical Device Applications

Biophotonics at Tyndall is an established collaborative research programme based at the Tyndall National Institute. The Irish MEDTECH sector includes 18 of the top 25 medical device companies and this group works closely with these companies. The Group's focus will be to form close collaborations with clinicians, research centres and companies to accelerate biophotonics technology and rapidly deliver breakthrough technologies into the hands of health care providers. Using photonics and microelectronics with a focus on biophotonics and other photonics based modalities as a platform for the faster development and deployment of more accurate, less invasive diagnostic and treatment methods to improve the quality of patient care. The Biophotonics group was set up eight years ago at Tyndall National Institute, the Irish Photonic Integration Centre (IPIC) and University College Cork, under funding from Research Ireland and the EU. There are 45 researchers in the group.

Reporting to Mr. Ray Burke, Senior Technology Manager and Principal Investigator, the senior design engineer position involves research into and design of novel sensor systems and interface electronics including microelectronics (ASIC) and embedded systems for medical device applications. It will involve working with the biophotonics team, other academic partners and clinicians to understand the system requirements and then design novel sensors, microelectronics and embedded systems to meet the research and design needs. The position is a joint and close collaboration with MCCI, the Irish Microelectronic Circuits Centre hosted in Tyndall. The work is in support of the advancement of microelectronics in MedTech, smart and highly integrated medical sensors.
