Job Description
Hi, I am Jesper part of the Operations leadership team at Salute , and we're expanding our operations in Amsterdam. We're looking for a Senior Shift Data Center Engineer who enjoys owning complex, mission-critical infrastructure and leading by example on a 24/7 site.
At Salute, we don't just keep data centers running - we continuously improve how they run. This is a senior, hands-on role where your technical judgment, calm decision-making, and ownership mindset directly protect customer uptime and site safety.
How we operate
In many data center environments, senior engineers are pulled away from the floor into purely administrative or supervisory roles. At Salute, we believe senior engineers should stay close to the infrastructure.
You'll still plan, approve, and oversee complex work - but you'll also be deeply involved in execution, troubleshooting, and real-time decision-making. When something critical happens, we don't wait for instructions to travel up a chain. Our senior engineers take control, communicate clearly, and guide the team safely through the situation.
You'll work closely with the Manager of Operations, contractors, and customers, balancing technical excellence, safety, and operational continuity on a live, mission-critical site.
This role will be a great fit if you like:
Taking ownership of electrical and mechanical infrastructure supporting 99.999% uptime environments
Working 3-shift rotations , including nights, where no two shifts are the same
Leading complex maintenance and switching activities with clear procedures and strong risk awareness
Acting as the calm technical authority during alarms, incidents, and emergencies
Improving reliability, efficiency, and energy performance without compromising uptime
Working closely with vendors, customers, and internal teams to get work done right the first time
The role may not be a fit if you:
Prefer a purely office-based or non-hands-on senior role
Are uncomfortable making real-time decisions during critical events
Prefer narrowly defined responsibilities rather than broad site ownership
Struggle with shift work or emergency response duties
On a regular basis, you will:
Ensure all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems operate at peak efficiency
Lead and oversee planned preventative maintenance , corrective work, and emergency response
Plan and execute work on 1-line electrical systems , in line with approved PPM schedules
Prepare and review detailed Methods of Procedure (MoPs) for high-risk activities
Coordinate and supervise contractors and vendors, ensuring work follows approved procedures
Respond to alarms and incidents calmly and effectively, communicating clearly with stakeholders
Ensure all work is properly logged and administered in accordance with site processes
Monitor site conditions to maintain safety, compliance, and operational continuity
Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness
Keep the Manager of Operations and customers fully informed of planned and corrective activities
Systems you'll work with:
Standby diesel generators, transformers, switchgear
UPS systems, PDUs, ATS/STS, RPPs
Chillers, AHUs, CRAH/CRAC units, cooling towers
Pumps, motors, VFDs, chemical treatment systems
Building Management and Automation Systems
Skills and experience you will bring:
Electrical or Mechanical qualification (WEB level 4 with 4+ years' experience, or HBO Engineering degree)
Strong experience in data centers or other critical environments
Authorized LV/HV switching certification (NEN3140 / NEN3840)
Strong written and verbal communication skills in Dutch and English
Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail
A proactive, improvement-focused mindset with strong ownership mentality
Ability to lead work safely under pressure
Certifications (required or achievable shortly after start):
VCA (Safety for Operational Supervisors)
BHV
Nominated Person / Installatieverantwoordelijke experience is a strong plus
Shift pattern
This role operates on a 3-shift rotation , including night shifts, supporting true 24/7 operations.
What we offer:
Highly competitive salary aligned with experience
Shift allowance
Access to cutting-edge industry and technical training
Clear development and career progression opportunities
A collaborative, high-trust operations culture
Join Salute
At Salute, we don't believe in rigid silos or passive operations. We believe in ownership, teamwork, and technical excellence . If you're a senior engineer who wants real responsibility, real impact, and room to grow in a mission-critical environment, we'd love to hear from you.
