Job Description

Hitachi Energy is seeking a dynamic Senior Control System Engineer to join our Grid Automation business.

How you'll make an impact:
  • Manage the design, review, integration, installation, and testing of the entire scope that includes SCADA, RTU, PLC, Ethernet Switches, GPS, and Cyber Security solutions.
  • Provide technical support to colleagues, customers, and sales teams.
  • Possess solid knowledge of industrial communication protocols and standards such as IEC61850, IEC 60870, DNP3, and Modbus.
  • Facilitate the implementation of cybersecurity measures for critical infrastructure telemetry, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Develop control system solutions from concept to delivery.
  • Support manufacturer testing and FAT stages, as well as installation and commissioning activities.
  • Assist in preparing project proposals and presentations.
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness and support project management in issuing claims (new/change in scope of work, cost impact, time impact, risk quantifications, etc.).
  • Support project management in issuing claims and managing risks.
  • Act as the technical point of contact for customers and internal teams.
  • Experience in SCADA solutions, HMI development, programming, and RTU/IED integration.
  • Flexible approach to work tasks and willingness to work additional hours as needed.
Your background:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Control, or Communication Engineering.
  • Understanding of UK electricity industry standards, especially National Grid, SSE/SPEN, DNO standards, and type registration/product approval process.
  • Over 5 years of experience in Copa Data (Zenon SCADA) within the Electrical Industry.
  • Strong design capability and experience in the engineering discipline of Control systems.
  • Strong understanding of relevant communication protocols and computer interfaces: MODBUS, DNP3, IEC 61850, IEC 60870, and communication and network equipment.
  • Strong coordination and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with both internal and external teams and customers.
  • Able to work well using your own initiative, you're also a team player who'll collaborate and communicate well to achieve successful outcomes.
  • You're flexible in your attitude to working hours as the role will require working all over the UK, sometimes at short notice.
  • You have excellent organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • You have a systematic approach, a positive mindset, and are keen to learn and develop.
