Job Description
Role Purpose

The Senior Construction Liability Underwriter will be responsible for the profitable underwriting and development of a construction-focused liability portfolio, including Employers' Liability, Public Liability, and Contractors Combined risks.

The role requires strong technical underwriting expertise, a detailed understanding of construction trade exposures, and the ability to support portfolio growth in line with IIGL and Avid strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities Underwriting & Portfolio Management
  • Underwrite new and renewal construction liability risks (EL/PL/Contractors Combined) within IIGL's delegated authority.

  • Apply IIGL's underwriting appetite, rating discipline and risk selection philosophy.

  • Deliver profitable growth aligned to IIGL's loss ratio and GWP targets.

  • Monitor portfolio performance, identifying trends and recommending corrective action where required.

Broker Development
  • Build and maintain strong broker relationships across regional and national markets.

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities within target construction sectors.

  • Represent IIGL and Avid in broker meetings and market engagements.

Technical & Governance
  • Provide referral support where appropriate.

  • Contribute to underwriting guidelines and product development initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with delegated authority agreements and regulatory standards.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and audit-ready underwriting files.

Required Experience & Skills
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience underwriting construction liability risks.

  • Strong knowledge of UK construction trades and liability exposures.

  • Demonstrable experience underwriting Employers' Liability and Public Liability risks.

  • Experience operating within underwriting authority limits.

  • Proven ability to build broker relationships and drive new business.

  • Strong analytical and decision-making capability.
