The Commercial Procurement team is repositioning itself to become a strategic enabler for BBC. Senior Commercial Procurement Business Partners will play a key part in this by partnering with key stakeholders to influence and support strategic objectives, drive third-party commercial strategy, and manage supplier relationships. You will provide leadership and management of a team that delivers a project pipeline of cost optimisation and risk mitigation, owning high-profile projects end-to-end and governance processes to ensure efficient approval routes and the best outcomes for the BBC.
This role sits within the divisional procurement team, partnering with CCOG (Chief Customer Operating Group) which includes marketing (media, branding and creative), audiences and revenue management, together with all things BBC News.
Main Responsibilities- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand needs and future plans; develop procurement strategies focused on cost efficiencies aligned to business objectives.
- Implement a Category spend plan using external and internal data to support sourcing and risk mitigation across a full pipeline of activities.
- Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans that align with business objectives (across single and competitive tenders).
- Motivate third-party providers to optimise service outcomes while managing costs.
- Analyse market trends and data to identify cost-saving opportunities and provide actionable decisions.
- Implement cost control strategies to achieve budgetary targets and align with Finance Business Partners as needed.
- Take responsibility for junior procurement team members' pipeline of projects, ensuring performance output.
- Monitor and report on procurement performance metrics to ensure visibility and continuous improvement.
- Liaise with Global Process Owners (GPOs) to ensure processes and suppliers comply with organisational policies, legal and ethical standards.
- Lead a team and mentor junior staff to develop capabilities and business acumen.
- Contribute to developing the function into a centre of excellence, driving commercial insight and mitigating key business risk through collaboration with the broader Procurement team.
- Set example as part of the extended Procurement Leadership Team and contribute to procurement strategy and team culture.
- Ability to influence the setup and positioning of strategic procurement projects, including:
- Driving consolidation of supply
- Influencing changes in the supply base to address risk factors
- Up-stream operating model changes using commercial and category skills to influence change before sourcing
- Influencing demand and specifications up-stream before sourcing
- Ability to work with Category peers and shape resourcing for larger, complex projects in line with divisional category plans
- Ability to adapt style and approach to a wide range of stakeholders to enable effective influence and credibility
- Experience running high-profile, large, complex procurements in a regulated environment with strong commercial outcomes
- In-depth understanding of public procurement processes, market dynamics and supply chain management
- Strategic thinking with the ability to apply commercial acumen to challenges
- Strong interpersonal skills to develop relationships at all levels, including senior executive level
- Ability to understand data and take appropriate action, blending external market knowledge with BBC context
- Experience leading, developing and managing a team and delivering against a performance scorecard
- Experience executing cost control strategies to meet budget targets, aligning with Finance Partners
- Extensive experience in supplier/contract management and handling key supplier issues for commercial benefit
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or equivalent (e.g., MCIPS, CPSM)
