Job Description
Senior Clinical Fellow in PICU

Closing date: 25 May 2026

Bristol Children's PICU is an 18 bedded unit providing full intensive care services to the Southwest of England and cardiac surgical services to the Southwest and South Wales. The post would involve clinical duties on PICU as well as possibly in the regional transport service.

Main duties of the job

Applicants must have completed a minimum of two years training in their base specialty and may come from a Paediatric, Anaesthetic, Intensive Care or an Emergency Medicine background. This post is also suitable for more senior doctors who wish paediatric intensive care or transport experience.

Job responsibilities

The post would be for six to twelve months, with a potential to extend and a start date in August 2026.

Person Specification Knowledge and Experience
  • Completion of Core training (minimum 2 years) in base specialty
  • Previous experience in either Paediatrics, Anaesthesia, Intensive Care, Paediatric Surgery or Emergency Medicine
  • Previous experience of working within the NHS
  • Previous ECMO/ECLS experience
  • Exposure to intensive care medicine (adult, paediatric or neonatal)
Skills and Abilities
  • Good communication skills with colleagues and families
  • Ability to cope with stressful situations and maintain good relations with medical and nursing colleagues
  • Ability to work in a multi professional team
  • Ability to fit in with shift based working system
  • Flexibility with scheduling

Qualifications and Training
  • Medical Degree
  • GMC Full Registration
  • First part of Postgraduate medical qualifications e.g. MRCPCH, FRCA, FRCS or equivalent if non UK trained
  • Full MRCPCH, FRCA, FRCS (or equivalent)
  • Membership of defence organisation
  • Evidence of current accreditation in paediatric/neonatal life support (APLS, PALS, NLS or EPLS)
