Job Description
Senior Clinical Fellow in Periprocedural and CC Echo Cardiography

The closing date is 08 March 2026.

To provide a clinical service in perioperative, periprocedural and critical care echocardiography (transoesophageal and transthoracic echocardiography) and to participate in the efficient running and reporting of these services in theatres, catheter labs, adult ICU and HDU.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide clinical service in perioperative, peri-procedural and critical care echocardiography (trans-oesophageal and trans-thoracic) as part of the peri-procedural echocardiography team.
  • Participate in, and contribute to, the proper functioning and efficient running of organisation, delivery, and reporting of peri-procedural echocardiography services in theatres, catheter labs, adult ICU and HDU.
  • Participate in medical audit.
  • Study for accreditation (UK, European or American) in TOE and/or TTE, unless already held.
Job responsibilities

The timing and organisation of sessions will be in conjunction with the peri-procedural echocardiography consultants to provide comprehensive clinical support. The appointee will take an active interest in teaching TOE & TTE in peri-operative and critical care settings and undertake research in this area.

Person Specification Qualification
  • MB BS or equivalent
  • MRCP, FRCA, FRCS or equivalent
  • Higher specialist training in Cardiology, Critical Care, Anaesthesia or Cardiothoracic Surgery, with relevant experience in echocardiography
  • On the GMC register
Experience
  • UK/European/American accreditation in TTE or equivalent
  • Attendance at a peri-operative TOE course and previous experience of TOE
  • Relevant higher specialist training in Cardiology, Critical Care, Anaesthesia and Cardiac Surgery
  • UK/European/American accreditation in TOE or equivalent
Skills
  • Technical and clinical skills required for TOE and TTE
  • Knowledge of critical care pathophysiology
  • Wide knowledge of cardiac and thoracic physiology
  • Teaching skills and ability to undertake research
Other
  • Commitment to continuing Medical Education
