This post is an important part of our ongoing development of medical services at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, offering the successful applicant the opportunity to work closely with existing Anaesthetics medical staff to provide a high standard of care across the Trust. We are seeking individuals with enthusiasm, commitment, and drive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within the community to help lead the organisation.
This is a fixed term appointment to cover for vacant post and is based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage. The post is full time and the post holder will be expected to participate on the 1:8 on call rota.
This is an excellent opportunity within the Pain Management and Anaesthetics department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The on-call rota will be a 1 in 8 full shift rota. Although not a training post, opportunities will be available for the appointee to develop their skills in all areas of both Pain Medicine and Anaesthetics. Clinical Fellows are encouraged to take an active part in all teaching and training undertaken by the department and undertake further professional development. We have a dedicated educational adviser/mentor to support this.
Main duties of the job The primary role will be as part of the Pain Management Service, with the intention of supporting procedure lists maximise efficiency. Duties also include provision of anaesthetic services for all specialties at Trust sites as well as out of hours cover for theatres, ICU and Obstetrics at a middle tier level. The duties include doing a 1:8 on call rota covering any of the 5 tier on call rotas.

Person specification
- Hold full registration and a current licence to practice with the GMC
- Minimum of 6 months experience in a UK anaesthetic post including having achieved the anaesthetic initial assessment of competence (IAC).
- MBBS or equivalent
- Advanced Life Support Certificate or equivalent
- Primary or final FRCA or equivalent qualification
- Recognition of and ability to undertake the initial management of, an acutely ill patient
- Possess up to date knowledge of principles and practices of anaesthesia
- Familiar with contemporary post operative pain control
- Experience in use of regional techniques
- Experience in Medicine outside of anaesthesia
- Experience in Critical Care and obstetric anaesthesia
- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English, of a standard to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues evidenced by undergraduate medical training undertaken in English or, IELTS score above 7.5 overall or, alternative supporting evidence
