Senior Clinical Fellow in HPB Surgery

The closing date is 10 March 2026

Applications are invited for a fixed-term (12 months) Locally Employed Senior Clinical Fellowship in the Benign Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery at Royal Derby Hospital starting in August 2026

This post is a one-year fellowship designed to provide intensive training in advanced HPB surgery including laparoscopic and robotic surgery.

Applicants should be post CCT or equivalent or be within 12 months of completion of CTT.

Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.

All applicants must have Full GMC Registration with License to Practice at the time of submitting your application.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a varied and busy department that will provide opportunity for training and development.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to obtain a good volume of training in HPB surgery as well as supporting the team across all areas of elective activity including day case, outpatients, endoscopy and ward rounds. They will be a senior member of team, providing leadership and support to the junior doctors.

They will be expected to be involved in teaching and training of undergraduates and post graduates.

There is opportunity to participate in the middle grade on call general surgical rota (1:17) - 50% slot.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Higher Degree (PhD or MD)
  • Life Support Qualifications BLS & ALS
  • Distinctions, prizes, awards or scholarships, presentations and publications
  • Eligible for Full GMC Registration, with a licence to practice, at time of application
Clinical Knowledge & Skills
  • Applicants should be post-CCT (General Surgery) or equivalent or be within 12-months of completion of CCT
  • UK experience in General Surgery
  • Relevant HPB clinical Knowledge
  • Experience in advanced laparoscopic UGI/HPB surgery
  • Experience in Robotic Surgery
Teaching/Audit/Research
  • Evidence of teaching experience & feedback
  • Evidence & experience of supervising and teaching resident doctors and medical students
  • Evidence and ability to assess & apply evidence-based research into every day clinical practice
  • Evidence of active participation in audit
  • Any teaching courses or qualifications
  • Evidence of research or participation in research.
Communication Skills
  • Experience of formal presentations
  • Evidence of ability to work as part of an MDT
