Senior Clinical Fellow in General Cardiology

We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic clinicians to join our dynamic Heart Division. Two Senior Clinical Fellow positions are available, offering excellent opportunities for specialist development, hands-on clinical exposure, and contribution to service improvement within a high-performing cardiology department.
This post is designed for candidates who wish to broaden their experience in general cardiology.
Key responsibilities include:
- Participate and must be committed in the cardiology on-call rota 1-16 (ward cover, long day on-call and nights) covering inpatient activity and emergency work
- Involvement in Heart Failure, Intervention, EP clinics and ward-based reviews under the supervision of the Cardiology team
- Exposure to diagnostics, including echocardiography interpretation, device therapies, and advanced treatment options
- Engagement in departmental teaching, audit, research, and quality-improvement activities
This role would suit clinicians aiming to enhance their overall cardiology skills while gaining structured experience at the Royal Brompton Hospital, with potential for future subspecialty focus.

Main duties of the jobClinical Responsibilities
To be part of the cardiology service at Royal Brompton Hospital in collaboration with medical and surgical colleagues and other departments and services.
Participate in new patient and follow-up consultant-led outpatient clinics
Provide inpatient services to cardiology patients
Participate in an on-call rota covering inpatient activity and emergency work.
Supervise and train junior staff allocated to cardiology.
To work as a full member of the multi-disciplinary Cardiology team, including participation in the rota and the attendance and presentation at weekly MDTs and meetings.
To undertake regular ward rounds to ensure effective management during the in-patient stay and early discharge of patients whenever possible.
Participate in audit within the department.
Participate fully in the service and training programme of the clinical group.
Perform routine transthoracic echocardiography and perform and interpret echocardiograms. There is opportunity to learn and perform trans-oesophageal echocardiography

- MRCS, or equivalent
- Minimum of 24 months cardiology training
- Experience in echo
- Advanced life support training
- Participation in a recognised scheme of continuing medical education
- Teaching experience of medical students and FY1/2 or ST1/2 or similar posts.
- Evidence of understanding and application of clinical care
- Sound knowledge of Cardiology
- Proficient and efficient handling medical problems
- Evidence of safe sound practical procedures
- IT skills and computer literacy
