Senior Clinical Fellow in Cardiac surgery

An excellent training opportunity has arisen for a clinical fellow to join the Cardiac Surgery department at St George's University Hospital.
The post holder will work alongside ten registrars and join six members of junior medical staff. The unit has eight consultants.
The unit prides itself on providing first class teaching and training for its junior staff and medical students. Teaching sessions or MDMs are held every morning of the week. In outpatients, juniors are encouraged to assess new patients, and in theatres they are supported and encouraged, substantially increasing their operative experience.

Main duties of the job- Caring for inpatients and outpatients
- Attendance in Cardiac Theatre
- 1:10 on call
- The individual is expected to take an active part in all departmental academic audit meetings.
- The post holder will, along with consultant and registrar colleagues, contribute to the provision of Cardiac Surgical services to St George's University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, including:
- Diagnosis and treatment of patients of the Trust in such hospitals, clinics or other premises as is required.
- Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in his/her care.

Person Specification Qualifications- MBBS or equivalent
- BSc
- MSc/MA
- Comprehensive clinical experience in geriatrics and acute general internal medicine +/- in peri-operative medicine
- Good medical knowledge and clinical skills
- ALS Certificate
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to manage own workload and take initiative
- Ability to work as part of a multi disciplinary team
- Ability to be flexible and to manage a reasonable workload that can quickly change
- Demonstrates experience in leadership
- Understands the principles of audit and quality improvement
- Experience in designing and leading quality improvement
- Evidence of quality improvement work resulting in sustained change
- Experience in teaching undergraduates, post graduates and allied healthcare professionals
- Development of a formal teaching programme
- Understanding of the principles and clinical applications of clinical research
- Evidence of involvement in original research
- Excellent organisational skills
- Experience of supervision of more junior trainees
- Experience in clinical risk management and governance processes
- Full GMC registration and hold a licence to practise
- Evidence of understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council
