Job Description

This is a new exciting opportunity for a one-year appointment as a Foot and Ankle fellow at the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Foot and Ankle Unit has four Consultants and the Fellowship allows you to work with all of them. The team sees elective foot and ankle cases, including ankle replacement, diabetic foot management, complex deformity corrections, and specialist trauma referrals such as complex trimalleolar and Lisfranc fractures.

Job Type: fixed term 12 months

Working pattern: 40 hours per week

Specialty/Function: foot and ankle fellow

Main duties of the job
  • Serve as a Senior Orthopaedic Trainee in a foot and ankle fellowship, with high-volume surgical exposure.
  • Assist in elective procedures such as ankle replacement, diabetic foot care, deformity correction, and trauma referrals.
  • Participate in the diabetic multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to complex case discussions.
  • Perform surgeries independently where appropriate, under supervision as needed.
  • Engage in research and audit projects, preparing presentations and publications.
  • Provide teaching and mentorship to trainees and medical students.
  • Maintain a strong teaching commitment and effective team working.
Qualifications/Clinical skills
  • Full GMC registration.
  • FRCS or an equivalent qualification.
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register via O-CCT or CESR (CP) with proposed date within six months of interview.
Special Knowledge/Abilities and/or Experience
  • Minimum of 6 months full-time or equivalent part-time experience in foot and ankle surgery at a middle-grade level.
Person Skills/Qualities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to teach trainees and medical students.
Interests and Motivation to the job
  • Commitment to maintaining education to the standards set by the Royal College of Surgeons.
Academic achievements/research publication
  • Interest in research and audit.
  • Higher research degrees such as MD, MS, MSc, PhD.
  • Research publications in peer reviewed journals.
Other skills (eg.audit/teaching/management)
  • Enthusiasm to assist in the development of Orthopaedic services.
  • Experience in teaching undergraduate medical students.
  • Member of BASK or BHS.
