Overview

Senior Children's Community Nurse - Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Children's Community Nursing Outreach Team. We are looking to recruit experienced children's nurses who are ready for a new challenge to work autonomously and as part of a dynamic and supportive team.

You will be responsible for providing high quality and responsive care to support the early discharge from hospital of children and families to their own homes as well as promoting the prevention of hospital attendance by facilitating direct referrals from GPs.

We welcome applicants who can work autonomously, demonstrate enthusiasm, excellent communication/decision making skills and who are passionate about Children's Community Nursing and providing care closer to home.

Applicants must be willing to work flexibly and collaboratively within the team to provide a seven day service for our patients.

Due to current service demands, we are only able to consider applicants who have relevant UK experience. Candidates must also be available to commence employment immediately or within a very short timeframe. We regret that we cannot progress applications that do not meet these essential requirements.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care within the local community and acts as a Case Load Holder for a defined geographical area. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care, and to assist with the training and supervision of junior and unqualified staff.

The post holder will be expected to work flexibly over seven days.

The post holder will be expected to undertake a clinical shift once a month on the Paediatric Unit to maintain competencies in order to support the Unit if required.

We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Nursing degree level educated/working towards
  • ENB 998 mentorship course or equivalent
Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience in autonomous decision making, and management of own workload.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Knowledge / experience in community nursing
Skills and abilities
  • Up to date and highly developed clinical skills in order to ensure quality of services being provided
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and have a flexible approach with respect to responsibilities.
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Able to prioritise and use initiative
  • Basic IT skills
  • Ability to work independently & as a team member
