Senior Care Assistant, Evening Lead

Hours: 25 to 30 hours per week. Core working hours: 4pm to 10pm, weekdays. Weekend requirement: Every other weekend, 4pm to 10pm. On call: Participation in the on call rota is required. Pay rate: £15.00 per hour. Location: Community based, domiciliary care.

About the role

We are recruiting a Senior Care Assistant to provide experienced, calm leadership during our evening care calls. This is a senior, client facing role working closely with elderly people, including those with dementia, sensory impairment, and complex needs. Clear, confident English communication is essential for safety, dignity, reassurance, accurate care delivery, documentation, and leadership of other carers. This is a hands on, field based role focused on supporting carers, maintaining high standards, and ensuring safe, consistent care during the busiest and highest risk part of the day. This role suits an experienced carer who is confident, reliable, and comfortable taking responsibility when office support is not available.

About us

We are a close knit, supportive domiciliary care team who take pride in doing things properly. We value professionalism, clear communication, and looking after one another as well as our service users. We welcome people who want to be part of us, who care about the quality of their work, and who want to contribute positively to the team, not just turn up for shifts. Alongside our day to day work, we make time to come together as a team. We hold regular get togethers throughout the year and have been known to enjoy a healthy bit of competition, including team bowling. We believe strong relationships within the team support better care and a healthier working environment.

Core responsibilities
  • Lead by example during evening care calls
  • Support carers on shift with guidance, reassurance, and problem solving
  • Assist with complex calls and double ups when required
  • Promote safe medication practices and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Maintain professional standards of care, dignity, and communication
  • Identify early concerns and escalate them promptly
  • Provide clear handovers and accurate documentation
  • Act as a first point of contact for carers during evening shifts
  • Take part in the on call rota once fully established in the role
What we are looking for
  • Experience in domiciliary care
  • Confidence supporting and guiding other carers
  • Calm, professional decision making during busy periods
  • Strong communication skills
  • Broad flexibility across service users
  • Reliable availability for evening and alternate weekend work

This role is not suitable for applicants looking for school hours or ad hoc shifts.

What we offer
  • £15.00 per hour
  • Consistent evening hours with structured weekends
  • Paid on call duties, with a clear rota and additional payments for availability and call outs
  • Clear role expectations and leadership support
  • Ongoing training, supervision, and development
  • A well organised service with high standards of care
