Position: Senior BI Developer

Location: Preston

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000

Hybrid - once a week in the office, twice a week for a while at the beginning.

We are currently working with a company within the clinical research and life sciences sector. We are looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Developer to join the high-performing data function. This is a brand new position for the business, all down to their expansion and growth, there are forecasting a big 2026 for the business - this is the prefect time to join.

This role is a senior, hands-on BI position responsible for leading the organisation's BI capability and owning Power BI end-to-end. This involves designing high-quality dashboards and reports, optimising data models, and translating business needs into clear, actionable insights. Working closely with technical teams and senior stakeholders, the role plays a key part in driving data-informed decision-making across the organisation.

We are specifically looking for someone who is strong on the gathering of analytical requirements, working with stakeholders to understand those and push back where needed. As the business grows, new reports and insights are required and that is where this role comes in. Currently there are over 30 reports currently in place, which are good but can be improved and standardised.

In addition you will also be mentoring a junior data analyst, but we do not need any previous leadership experience.

Responsibilities:

• Act as the organisation's lead Business Intelligence specialist, owning Power BI end to end and setting best-practice BI standards across the business.
• Design, build and maintain high-quality, visually compelling dashboards and reports, optimising data models and performance for large, complex datasets.
• Collaborate closely with technical teams and stakeholders at all levels, translating business requirements into actionable, data-driven insights.
• Establish and continuously improve BI processes, governance and reporting frameworks to support consistent, reliable decision-making.
• Provide hands-on BI delivery while influencing data-led thinking, mentoring others and driving the effective use of analytics across the organisation.

About you:

• Ability to design and deliver high-quality BI dashboards that are intuitive, visually strong and easy for end users to interpret.
• Advanced hands-on experience using Power BI as a primary reporting and analytics platform.
• Strong technical foundation in data modelling, DAX and Power Query, with a focus on performance and scalability.
• Confident querying and manipulating data using SQL across complex and high-volume datasets.
• Experience working with large, multifaceted data sources and improving efficiency through optimisation techniques.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders.
