Senior Backend Engineer (Remote) - UK

We are looking for highly talented and driven software engineers who take pride in their work, to expand our Engineering team in London. Successful candidates will join a cross-functional team including product managers and designers working closely with the rest of our business to deliver working code that solves real problems for both internal and external customers. You will take ownership of the services managed by your team, ensuring that their development aligns with the higher-level AlphaSights Engineering strategy, while mentoring more junior Engineers. What you'll do:

1. Design solutions: Define the best technical solutions to business problems, contributing to an architectural vision that will scale up to be the world's leading research platform.
2. Ship working code: Work primarily with React on the frontend and Kotlin microservices with Postgres on the backend, with some older services written in Ruby on Rails. We are open to assessing new technologies that might improve our stack.
3. Deploy and iterate: Release frequently to our customers using CircleCI and Spinnaker for CI/CD, and gather feedback quickly to inform subsequent iterations.
4. Build your competency: Learn quickly by building market-leading technology with experienced colleagues in a high-performance environment. Use our L&D budget to develop specific technical skills.
5. Maintenance and troubleshooting: Monitor services carefully, catch errors early, diagnose root causes, and deploy fixes promptly.

Who you are:

• You probably have a degree in a STEM subject, but we're open to candidates who have gained expertise via alternative routes.
• Experience working at a similar level in a mature Engineering team: We're looking for people with potential to grow further.
• Technical expertise: Proficiency in at least one programming language (we use Kotlin and some Ruby), and ideally experience with relational databases.
• Proven impact: Demonstrable contributions in previous roles, standing out among peers. Highly driven, proactive, and independent in overcoming hurdles and achieving excellent outcomes.
• Attention to detail: Maintain high standards and meticulousness in your work.
