Job Description
Senior Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner

We are seeking an experienced Senior ANNP with advanced neonatal clinical practice skills to join our Neonatal Services team. This role involves working at a middle grade level, equivalent to ST3 to ST8 Registrar, providing senior medical cover for 5 of 7 days per week, including 1 weekend every three weeks initially; later providing cover on Tier 2 medical rota once Tier 2 rota is split. The successful candidate will deliver holistic care across the Neonatal Unit, Delivery Suite, Postnatal Ward, and Meadow Birth Centre, ensuring continuity through patient and family communication, discharge planning, and leadership of junior doctors and ANNPs.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide urgent and non-urgent senior medical review, high-risk deliveries, and emergency care.
  • Lead clinical assessments, differential diagnoses, and management of complex neonatal conditions.
  • Perform advanced practical procedures (e.g., intubation, ventilation, lumbar puncture) and interpret investigations, supervise ANNP students, and contribute to multidisciplinary team development.
  • Engage in quality improvement, research, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Maintain NMC registration, revalidation, and non-medical prescribing qualifications.
Person Specification Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse, RSCN, RN Child ENB 405
  • MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice (Neonatal Pathway)
  • Recognised mentor/assessor or teaching qualification.
  • Independent non-medical prescriber
  • Accredited New-born Infant Physical Examination
  • Current NLS certification
  • NLS Instructor
  • Counselling/ Bereavement training
  • Qualification in leadership/management

Experience
  • Extensive ANNP experience (Tier 1 rota or equivalent)

  • Advanced clinical decision-making and autonomous practice in complex neonatal cases
  • Proficient in advanced neonatal clinical skills (e.g., intubation, lumbar puncture)
  • Proven experience implementing evidence-based practice and service improvements
  • Active participation in clinical audit, governance, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Experience delivering and assessing Neonatal Life Support Teaching, mentorship, and supervision of colleagues and trainees
  • Clinical leadership with ability to coordinate, influence and support multi-disciplinary teams
  • Non-medical prescribing experience
  • Ongoing professional development and maintenance of advanced practice
  • Cranial Ultrasound competence
  • Intubation Research
