Job Description

Job Title:

Senior Accountant

Overview:

The position reports to the Director, UK Controller, and is part of the Europe Regional Controller's group.

The Europe Controllers Group is responsible for ensuring the integrity of US GAAP financials in partnership with the GBSC (Global Business Service Center), ensuring local statutory reporting compliance, and providing support to business teams across various areas including accounting and controls.

The role will cover controller activities in the UK, supporting Mastercard UK Management Services Limited (MUMSL) and Mastercard Europe Services Limited (MESL).

The Controller activities include:

  1. Integrity of the Financials: Ensuring the financial statements for their businesses are appropriate, including management reporting and statutory filings.
  2. Business Advice: Providing guidance on proper accounting and reporting for transactions, customer deals, expenses, and other areas.
  3. Risk and Control: Playing a critical role in the First Line of Defense in the Risk and Control Framework, ensuring efficient processes with effective controls using ORM methodologies.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the integrity of financial records for UK-based legal entities in accordance with MasterCard policies, in partnership with the GBSC.
  • Manage statutory account audits for UK entities and provide quarterly disclosure information to MasterCard Corporate Group.
  • Maintain strong relationships with external auditors and third parties involved in statutory reporting.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to assess and communicate risks and opportunities.
  • Assist in preparing monthly financial statement monitoring controls for management review.
  • Maintain and improve internal control environment to support scalable operations and mitigate risks, ensuring alignment with MasterCard procedures.
  • Document financial and business processes across the scope of responsibility.
  • Provide ad hoc support for Tax and Treasury activities, including cash flow forecasts and interim accounts.

All About You:

We seek candidates with the following competencies:

  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified
  • Experience with US GAAP, IFRS, and UK statutory accounting and reporting requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
  • Experience with Big 10 firms or Financial Statement Generation Providers preferred
  • Experience liaising with external auditors
  • Experience in operational and financial control oversight and process improvement initiatives
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Proficient with Excel (VBA skills advantageous)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Flexible, efficient under tight deadlines, proactive, and able to work independently and in teams
  • Results-oriented and takes initiative
