Reddam House Berkshire is a co educational, independent school located in a Victorian mansion on 125 acres of wood and parkland. We have 800+ students aged 3 months to 18 years, including day students and boarders from age 11. Children are recognized as individuals with unique skills, celebrated, and given tailored support and guidance at every stage of their school career. Our structure of Early Learning, Junior, Middle, and Senior Schools ensures that each year group works with specialists who enjoy working with the students in their care.
The school is recruiting an enthusiastic, highly motivated and dedicated SENDCo and Lead of Academic Support for Junior School to all students and encourage excellence across the three pillars. This role starts September 2026.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the school carries out its statutory responsibilities regarding pupils with SEND, including reporting for the census, inspections and maintaining an up to date SEND Register communicated to relevant parents. The SENCo will teach 50 % of their timetable within the Academic Support Department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Support all staff in understanding the needs of SEND pupils, those requiring additional support or extension, and those needing pastoral support through training such as INSETs. Provide bespoke advice on how to support individual students with SEN.
- Through discussions with class teachers and the Deputy Head, support interventions for groups of students.
- Provide a process and deliver support for students suspected of showing signs of SEN nature or with gaps in their education.
- Assist parents in understanding their children's needs and signpost/support for diagnosis, as required, whether privately or via the NHS route.
- Liaise with external professionals regarding either diagnostic pathways or additional support.
- Manage any SEN budget effectively and efficiently for Junior School.
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification.
- National Professional Qualification for Special Educational Needs.
- Significant experience working with students with SEN in an educational setting.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Minimum Level 5 in Supporting Students with Specific Learning Difficulties or a NASENCo award (or equivalent).
