Job Description

Teacher - Trauma Informed Pathway (SEMH)

Help build something transformative. Change lives every day.

We are seeking an exceptional, reflective and relationship-centred teacher to lead learning within a brand-new Trauma Informed Pathway based in a therapeutic setting for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is far more than a classroom teaching role. It is an opportunity to shape and develop a bespoke provision designed for a small group of around 6-8 pupils who require highly personalised support to re-engage with education, strengthen emotional regulation and achieve meaningful outcomes.

Working alongside therapeutic practitioners, you will create a learning environment where education, intervention and personal development are seamlessly connected. Every day, you will help pupils feel safe, understood and successful.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the educational provision within a new Trauma Informed Pathway.
  • Plan and deliver highly personalised learning programmes.
  • Support pupils with significant barriers to education and engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with practitioners to align learning, SEMH development and intervention planning.
  • Help shape and develop a new therapeutic provision from the ground up.
  • Contribute to a culture of trauma-informed, relational and restorative practice.
  • For experienced UPS teachers, opportunities exist to influence wider school development and share best practice across the organisation.

We're Looking For Someone Who:

Is an outstanding classroom practitioner with experience of SEMH needs.

Is a qualified Trauma Informed Practitioner, or willing to undertake training on appointment.

Understands trauma-informed, attachment-aware, nurture and relational approaches.

Believes behaviour is communication and responds with empathy, consistency and professionalism.

Can create engaging learning experiences for pupils who may have lost confidence in education.

Is committed to inclusion, safeguarding and helping young people rebuild trust in learning.

What We Offer

  • The chance to develop and shape an innovative new Trauma Informed Pathway.
  • A small, carefully planned provision with approximately 6-8 pupils.
  • Funded Trauma Informed Practitioner training where required.
  • Opportunities for whole-school impact and leadership development.
  • A supportive leadership team and highly skilled multidisciplinary colleagues.
  • A school culture built on nurture, relationships and positive outcomes.
  • Fortnightly teacher supervision.
  • Access to an on-site HR Advisor who is also a Mental Health First Aider.
  • Membership of Benenden Healthcare.
  • Confidential counselling and wellbeing support.
  • Menopause support.
  • Team Teach training.
  • Open-door leadership approach.
  • Dedicated safeguarding support.

Why Join Us?

Our approach is built on the belief that pupils thrive when they feel safe, valued and understood. We combine high expectations with therapeutic and trauma-informed practice to help young people regulate emotions, build positive relationships and re-engage with learning.

This is a rare opportunity to be part of something genuinely innovative while making a lasting difference to some of the most vulnerable pupils. If you are passionate about personalised education, therapeutic practice and transforming outcomes, we'd love to hear from you.

Make an impact. Build relationships. Change futures.
