Semi-Skilled Mechanical Fitter

Salary: £35,000 - £42,000, dependent on experience

About the RoleWe are seeking a motivated and hands-on Semi-Skilled Mechanical Fitter to join a busy Hydrostatic Testing and Fettling Department within a leading engineering and manufacturing environment.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you'll play a key role in the organisation, testing and preparation of pump components, ensuring production schedules and quality standards are met. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a mechanical background who enjoys practical work and wants to develop their skills within a supportive workshop environment.

In addition to day-to-day testing and fettling activities, you will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and help maintain a safe, clean and efficient workplace.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out hydrostatic (pressure) testing of pump components in line with production schedules and build requirements.

  • Identify and resolve issues during testing using a practical and proactive approach.

  • Perform fettling of small and large pump components, preparing them for the next stage of production.

  • Shape and finish impellers and other components using a variety of hand-held power tools.

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, checklists and visual aids.

  • Complete dimensional inspection records, pressure test reports and quality documentation accurately.

  • Operate overhead cranes and forklift trucks to move large or heavy components safely around the workshop.

  • Load and unload deliveries and dispatch vehicles when required.

  • Support the Pump Assembly Team with component sub-assemblies, painting and fettling activities as needed.

  • Assist with the construction and removal of bespoke test assemblies.

  • Follow all Health, Safety, Environmental and Welfare procedures at all times.

  • Undertake any other reasonable duties required to support workshop operations.

About You Experience & Qualifications
  • Previous experience within a mechanical assembly, fitting or manufacturing environment.

  • Experience working to production schedules and deadlines.

  • Pressure testing experience or similar mechanical testing experience is desirable.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

  • Experience completing manufacturing, inspection and quality-related documentation.

  • Overhead Crane certification is advantageous (training can be provided).

  • Forklift Truck certification is advantageous (training can be provided).

  • Good understanding of health and safety within a workshop or manufacturing environment.
