Position: Security Response Officer (Grade NHS AfC: Band 2) - Full time, permanent, 12 hour shifts, 4 on / 4 off, 37.5 hours per week. Salary: £25,272 per annum. Site: ELHT sites - Town Blackburn. Closing date: 03/06/2026.
Job OverviewThe postholder will work as part of a cohesive team providing a 24/7 frontline security service to the organisation, across all Trust establishments. Responsibilities include preventing and detecting crime or anti social behaviour, ensuring the safety of patients, colleagues and visitors, and protecting Trust property and assets.
Key Responsibilities- Assist colleagues, patients and visitors in a manner that reflects positively on the Security Service and the Trust.
- Respond quickly and effectively to incidents that may arise suddenly and without warning.
- Conduct internal and external patrols of Trust sites and grounds to deter criminal or antisocial behaviour.
- Perform frequent patient monitoring duties, including dealing with patients lacking capacity, who may behave inappropriately or appear violent or aggressive.
- Provide high profile presence on wards and departments as requested by the Supervisor.
- Remain vigilant, making independent decisions when situations evolve swiftly.
- Provide protective escort to colleagues and patients between areas and buildings, including escorting monetary transfers.
- Support management in a temporary or acting capacity where required.
- Handle calls to the Security Control Room politely, efficiently and courteously; respond immediately to emergency calls.
- Remain knowledgeable of Trust Policies and Procedures, including Local Operating Procedures (LOPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Respond to alarms (fire, heli shouts, major incidents, security breaches) as directed by the Supervisor.
- Assist in Trust response to major incidents following instruction from the Management Team, Emergency Services and/or procedure.
- Carry out locking and unlocking of designated areas per schedule or Supervisor request.
- Report any unsafe conditions promptly to minimise risk of harm.
- Complete detailed incident reports promptly.
- Perform Control Room Operator duties as required.
- Security experience.
- Ability to stay calm and professional in challenging situations.
- Valid Security Industry Authority (SIA) Door Supervisor License.
- Ability to manage volatile and unpredictable individuals.
- GCSE English and Mathematics, grade C or above (or equivalent).
- Experience in public service, NHS security or related.
- Ex Military or Police experience preferred.
Employment is conducted on a full time basis; salaries for reduced hours are pro rated. Disclosure and Barring Service checks are required for this role; costs will be recovered from salary following appointment.
