We are looking for a caring, resilient and enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary SEMH school in Hackney.

This is an exciting opportunity to support students with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH and learning difficulties, helping them to achieve both academically and personally.

Whether you have experience as a Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker, Support Worker or are looking to build a career in SEND education, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role

You will:

  • Support students on a 1:1 and small-group basis
  • Help pupils access learning and engage positively in lessons
  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation and independence
  • Build strong relationships with students, staff and families
  • Support students with social, emotional and communication needs
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and pastoral teams
  • Create a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment

We're Looking For Someone Who:

Is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs

Has experience working with children or young people (school, youth work, care or mentoring backgrounds welcome)

Is patient, positive and resilient

Has strong communication and relationship-building skills

Can remain calm and professional in challenging situations

Is committed to safeguarding and student wellbeing

Desirable Experience

  • SEND, SEMH or Autism support
  • Teaching Assistant or Behaviour Mentor experience
  • Youth Work or Support Work background
  • Team Teach, MAPA or de-escalation training
  • Experience within a school or alternative provision setting
