Role overview

This is a highly autonomous role where creativity, initiative, and productivity are essential. The Sales Trainer is expected to take full ownership and accountability for the design, scheduling, and delivery of learning that drives measurable performance improvement. Effective diary management is critical, balancing long-term programme planning with the flexibility to respond to short-term business needs. The role demands tenacity, resilience, and a deep personal commitment to developing salespeople at all levels. Success requires someone who thrives on solving problems, managing their time with discipline, and constantly refining their approach to maximise impact. You'll need to be self-directed, commercially minded, and passionate about helping others succeed-acting not just as a trainer, but as a performance partner to the sales team.

Key tasks

  • Deliver structured training programmes including onboarding, product training, sales methodology (e.g. SPIN, Challenger), and systems/process training.
  • Create engaging learning content and supporting materials tailored to different sales roles and channels.
  • Facilitate classroom, virtual, and on-the-job learning sessions.
  • Conduct regular needs analysis to identify skills gaps and training opportunities.
  • Partner with sales leaders to evaluate training effectiveness and impact on performance.
  • Provide 1:1 coaching and feedback to sales team members as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and feedback for all training interventions.
  • Stay current with industry best practices, sales trends, and learning technologies.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the sales training curriculum and learning experience.
  • Designing and delivering sales training programmes for new and existing salespeople.
  • Supporting the onboarding and induction of new sales hires.
  • Coaching sales teams and individuals to improve capability and performance.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to identify training needs and performance gaps.
  • Supporting the embedding of sales methodologies, tools, and frameworks.

  • Deep understanding of sales techniques, methodologies, and customer buying behaviour.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills, both in-person and virtual.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into effective learning interventions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills, with the ability to influence and engage.
  • Proficient in using digital learning tools, CRM/sales platforms, and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong planning, organisation, and project management skills.
  • Accredited in or formally trained on sales methodologies such as SPIN Selling, Challenger, or Miller Heiman.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design frameworks.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and e-learning content creation tools.
  • Understanding of behavioural change and performance coaching models.

Experience (what you have done)

  • Proven experience as a Sales Trainer, Sales Coach, or in a similar sales enablement or L&D role.
  • Demonstrated success in designing and delivering training that improves sales outcomes.
  • Experience working with both outbound and inbound sales teams (e.g. contact centre and field sales).
  • Track record of working collaboratively with commercial teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Experience in a B2B and/or B2C sales environment.
  • Background in a high-growth or fast-paced commercial business.
  • Experience in analysing training data and reporting on performance metrics.
  • Experience working across different geographies or multicultural sales teams.
