Overview

This unique and exciting role requires an individual who must be an established and highly professional SD with a proven sales and marketing track record and strategy experience. They will need to have the ability to work beyond the sales and marketing function of our client's business to contribute to improving the underlying drivers that will promote its continued success in the future. The person must be experienced in working at professional board level as part of the senior team in a multi million pounds private business. The person will need to be as comfortable with working on detail as working on a strategic level in the business, to achieve medium and long term growth objectives.

Leadership and Management

The role will form an integral part of the Board and Executive Team. The SD will need strength as an effective leader and manager to help bring about strategic change to the organisation.

This coupled with other solid leadership and management capabilities will mean the SD will be able to contribute far more widely and effectively in driving the business towards its goals. The person will be expected to be a supportive leader, preparing and able to step in and provide the personal and leadership resource that will overcome that challenge.

Interpersonal and Communication

The individual's personal values and behaviour will need to demonstrate that they act with the interests of our client first and foremost, thereby earning respect and trust.

They must be very comfortable dealing with people from different backgrounds and at all levels, not just within the organisation, but also in wider stakeholder groups including suppliers, customers and regulatory authorities.

The role requires someone that is particularly talented in adapting their communication style to suit different audiences when delivering proposals and propositions, with a collaborative approach to team and business relationships.

As a Board member, the SD will need to possess the knowledge and skills required in handling internal and external relationships properly and with gravitas.

The individual will need to demonstrate flair, enthusiasm and confidence when making presentations to large and small groups alike.

Behavioural Characteristics

An outgoing yet empathetic disposition is essential. The role includes operational and strategic financial responsibilities, as well as the need to be a true ambassador for the client's business.

Behaviour should show a true exponent of the highest level of corporate responsibility, with a positive outlook and example setting leadership.

Specific Job Skills

A proficient SD is required with maturity and experience to deliver challenge and innovation when contributing to strategy and operational issues.

They will have first rate relationship building skills and be very adept at influencing and persuading people to arrive at the right decisions, behaviours and attitudes.

They will be expected to build and develop a high performance, integrated sales team that is highly regarded and respected both internally and externally.

A clear understanding of the sales reporting requirements within the business is required, including first rate writing and presentation skills.

The SD must have extensive planning, forecasting and strategic sales management experience gained within a dynamic commercial organisation.

As a key member of the Board the person will be required to demonstrate strong leadership capabilities while operating with a full understanding of other matters that affect the success of the business.

Technology and Systems Skills

In addition to being highly literate with common software applications, the SD will need to be skilled in understanding the benefits that good sales and marketing data can bring in growing turnover.

The ability to recognise opportunities where systems improvements can be implemented to add value to the business.
