Job Description
Service Technician - Permanent (Portlaoise, Co. Laois)

Sandvik is a global high tech engineering group. We are recruiting a Service Technician for a permanent role in Portlaoise (Co. Laois) to support the maintenance, repair and optimisation of our mining and construction equipment across Ireland.

Job Purpose

As a Sandvik Service Technician based at our Portlaoise workshops, you will ensure that our customers' machinery operates at peak performance by conducting diagnostics, performing scheduled servicing and executing mechanical and electrical repairs. You will work closely with the local service team and customers, adhering to Sandvik's high standards of safety and quality, minimising downtime and enhancing operational efficiency.

Main Responsibilities
  • Maintenance and servicing of equipment.
  • Plan for correct tools and parts to perform tasks, according to all work procedures.
  • Commissioning of products including pre delivery inspections and hot commissioning.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) to identify and solve common problems as first line support.
  • Identify components, understand basic functionality and conduct maintenance and repair work accordingly.
  • Support customer's product/equipment/processes by suggesting possible improvements.
  • Use knowledge and experience to solve standard problems for customers.
  • Understand system functionality and interactions of hydraulics, mechanics, electrics, automation, pneumatics and materials.
  • Complete maintenance reports for internal and external stakeholders and obtain customer authorisation to invoice.
  • Collect technical feedback for Sales Area and input into database.
  • Assign tasks to junior staff and guide them in their completion.
  • Coach customer technicians on basic servicing and maintenance principles.
  • Ensure that all routine work procedures are carried out according to safety standards.
  • Other ad hoc duties as requested by management.
Experience

You are a highly motivated and organised individual with exceptional communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills. You have a can do attitude, thrive in a multi cultural team environment, and can manage tasks with a focus on business development and improving current practices. A full clean driving licence is required; travel may be required from time to time. Training will be provided.

Education, Licenses & Certificates
  • Minimum 3 5 years' hands on experience working with heavy construction or agricultural machinery (e.g., excavators, loaders, telehandlers).
  • Proven expertise in hydraulic system maintenance and fault finding, including pumps, valves, cylinders, and hoses.
  • Solid understanding of electrical systems, including wiring, sensors, control units and CAN bus diagnostics.
  • Experience using diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot and repair faults efficiently.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance schedules and service documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Strong problem solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
