Job Description

High Pastures Surgery is housed in a large Georgian house, one of Maghull's oldest buildings and a well-known landmark. The building was renovated in 1986.

We have a patient list size of over 10,000 patients from the Maghull and Lydiate areas.

We are seeking a forward-thinking General Practitioner who is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred services.

The ideal candidate will, embrace new models of care and digitalhealth technologies.Be proactive in identifyingopportunities for service improvement and clinical innovation. Be open to developing special intereststhat align with practice and community needs.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will undertake a varietyof duties including face-to-face consultations, telephone consultations,queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions,processing of patient results and correspondence in a timely fashion.

Making professional, autonomousdecisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referredfrom other health care workers within the practice.

Assessing the health care needs ofpatients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.

Screening patients for disease riskfactors and early signs of illness.

Recording clear and contemporaneousconsultation notes to agreed standards.

Prescribing in accordance with thepractice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinicallyappropriate.

To opportunistically complete thenecessary checks and record appropriate data to support the practice in meetingthe QOF, attaining GMS contract quality points.

Due to the impending retirement of one of our GP partners. This is a rare opportunity to join oneof the largest practices in South Sefton.

High Pastures have 5 GP Partners, 2 SalariedGP's, 2 Physician Associates, a Clinical Pharmacist, a Midwife & 2 PracticeNurses.

We also have an experienced management, reception, admin/secretarialteam who are all committed to providing high quality, friendly and personalprimary care.

We are a member of the South SeftonPrimary Care Network and Federation. We are also a GP training practice,hosting junior doctors and student doctors.

The practice has been rated as Good bythe Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Every year, we consistently score highon QOF and LQC.

Job responsibilities

You will manage your own patient list of 1,500 patients (based on 6 sessions) and take part in the duty doctor rota, currently 1 in 6, between the hours of 8.00 am and 6.30 pm.

Salaried GPs employed under the BMA model contract are entitled to protected learning time for professional development. The 7th non-clinical session is a payment to cover this.

Lunchtime clinical/training meetings are held weekly to facilitate MDT discussion and peer support.

Role development and training is encouraged and supported.

Surgery start times can be flexible, but the post holder should normally be available between 8.00am and 6.00pm on each working day.

Each session will consist of 8 face-to-face appointments, 5 Blinx Paco (online consultations) and 3 telephone appointments.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • 1. Fully qualified GP eligible to work in NHS General Practice.
  • 2. MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
  • 3. Registered on the General Practitioner Register under Article 10 of the General and Specialist Medical Practice Order 2003.
  • 4. Registered on the National Performers List.
  • 5. Not subject to suspension under section 41A of the Medical Act 1983.
  • Clear DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) report.
  • 6. Evidence of commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
  • 7. Experience working in general practice or primary care.
  • 8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • 9. Ability to listen actively and empathetically.
  • 10. Strong attention to detail and time management.
  • 11. Ability to work under pressure and handle criticism constructively.
  • 12. Experience with clinical IT systems (e.g., EMIS).
  • 13. Accurate and thorough record keeping.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in areas such as:
  • 3. Diabetes care
  • 4. Women's health
  • 5. Mental health
  • 6. Palliative care
  • Teaching or mentoring qualifications for GPs involved in training registrars or medical students.
  • Understanding of the needs of vulnerable patient groups.
  • Experience working to achieve Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) standards.
