Job Description
Todmorden Group Practice is a thriving and supportivepractice based in the semi-rural Victorian market town of Todmorden.

The location is scenic with great roadand train links into Manchester and Leeds.

Main duties of the job We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Salaried GP for up to 6 sessions. We are family friendly and happy to discuss flexible arrangements. We are supportive of the fellowship scheme and can offer mentorship. We are keen to support any outside interest along with generous CPD time.

The post holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

About us The team consists of 4 GP Partners, 4 Salaried GPs and a nursing team of 9.

We have excellent links with the Upper Calder Valley PCN and engage with the ARRS roles, including, First Contact Physiotherapists, Visiting clinicians, Team of Pharmacist, Social Prescribers, Care Co-ordinators, and an Ageing Well Team. We are truly an MDT.

Job responsibilities ClinicalResponsibilities:

In accordance with the Practicetimetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available toundertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephoneconsultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signingrepeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence ina timely fashion.

Making professional, autonomousdecisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referredfrom other health care workers within the organisation.

Assessing the health care needs ofpatients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

Screening patients for disease riskfactors and early signs of illness.

In consultation with patients and inline with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plansfor health.

Providing counselling and healtheducation.

Admitting or discharging patients toand from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.

Recording clear and contemporaneousconsultation notes to agreed standards.

Compiling and issuingcomputer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-writtenprescriptions whenever possible).

Prescribing in accordance with the Practiceprescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.

In general the post-holder will beexpected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associatedwith a GP working within primary care.

OtherResponsibilities within the Organisation:

Awareness of and compliance with allrelevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, dataprotection, health and safety.

A commitment to life-long learning andaudit to ensure evidence-based best practice.

Contributing to evaluation/audit andclinical standard setting within the organisation.

Contributing to the development ofcomputer-based patient records.

Contributing to the summarising ofpatient records and Read-Coding patient data.

Attending training and events organisedby the Practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

Confidentiality:

In the course of seekingtreatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitiveinformation in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the rightto expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately

In the performance of theduties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder may have access toconfidential information relating to patients and their carers, Practice staffand other healthcare workers. They mayalso have access to information relating to the Practice as a businessorganisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded asstrictly confidential

Information relating topatients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the Practicemay only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Practicepolicies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection ofpersonal and sensitive data.

Health & Safety:

the post-holder will implement and leadon a full range of promotion and management their own and others health andsafety and infection control as defined in the practice Health & SafetyPolicy and the practice Infection Control policy. This will include (but willnot be limited to):

Using personal security systems withinthe workplace according to Practice guidelines.

Awareness of national standards ofinfection control and cleanliness and regulatory / contractual / professionalrequirements, and good practice guidelines.

Providing advice on the correct andsafe management of the specimens process including collection, labelling,handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transportarrangements.

Correct personal use of PersonalProtective Equipment (PPE) and ensuring correct use of PPE by others, advisingon appropriate circumstances for use by clinicians, staff and patients.

Management of the full range ofinfection control procedures in both routine and extraordinary circumstances(e.g. pandemic or individual infectious circumstances).

Hand hygiene standards for self and others.

Managing directly all incidents ofaccidental exposure.

Active observation of current workingpractices across the practice in relation to infection control, cleanliness andrelated activities, ensuring that procedures are followed, escalating issues asappropriate to the responsible person.

Identifying the risks involved in workactivities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risksacross clinical and patient process.

Making effective use of training toupdate knowledge and skills, and initiate and manage the training of othersacross the full range of infection control and patient processes.

Monitoring practice facilities andequipment in relation to infection control, ensuring that proper use is made ofhand cleansing facilities, wipes etc, and that these are sufficient to ensure agood clinical working environment. Lack of facilities to be escalated asappropriate to the responsible manager.

Safe management of sharps use, storageand disposal.

Maintenance of own clean workingenvironment.

Using appropriate infection controlprocedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy, clean and sterile, and safe way,free from hazards. Initiation of remedial / corrective action where needed orescalation to responsible management.

Actively identifying, reporting, andcorrection of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately whenrecognised.

Keeping own work areas and general /patient areas generally clean, sterile, identifying issues and hazards / risksin relation to other work areas within the business, and assumingresponsibility in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness acrossthe business in consultation (where appropriate) with responsible managers .

Undertaking periodic infection controltraining.

Correct waste and instrument managementincluding handling, segregation, and container use.

Maintenance of sterile environments.
