Job Description

Undercliffe Surgery are looking for a highly motivated General Practitioner to join our team. The ideal candidate will deliver 8 sessions per week, however we are willing to consider two candidates each delivering between 4 - 6 sessions per week Monday - Friday.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be expected to deal with a wide range of health needs and undertake responsibilities associated with working in a primary care setting.

In accordance with the practice timetable, the post holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, dealing with paperwork, reports and queries.

About us

We are patient centred practice in the heart of Heckmondwike with a list size of around 10,700 patients.

We are a GP training practice with an excellent supportive team of 2 GP Partners, 3 Salaried GP's and an advanced Practitioner. We also have a Nursing team consisting of 2 Practice Nurses, 2 Trainee Nursing associates and 2 Healthcare Assistants along with administrative and managerial staff providing a high quality of care to our patients.

We work closely with our neighbouring practices in the area within our PCN, Spen Health and Wellbeing primary care network to provide a high level of care to our patients and access to services within the community.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:-

In accordance with the Practice timetable, asagreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a varietyof duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries,visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions anddealing with queries, paperwork, reports and correspondence in a timelyfashion.

. Making professional, autonomous decisions inrelation to presenting problems, whether self referred or referred from otherhealth care workers within the organisation.

. Assessing the health care needs of patients withundifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.

. Screening patients for disease risk factors andearly signs of illness.

. Inconsultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease managementprotocols, developing care plans for health.

. Providingcounselling and health education.

. Referringto other care providers as appropriate.

. Recordingclear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.

. Delivering enhanced services.

. Compilingand issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoidinghand-written prescriptions whenever possible).

. Prescribing in accordance with the Practiceprescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

. In general the post-holder will be expected toundertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GPworking within primary care.

. Awareness of and compliance with all relevantPractice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, dataprotection, health and safety.

. Acommitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based bestpractice.

. Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinicalstandard setting within the organisation.

. Contributing to the development ofcomputer-based patient records. - Contributing to the summarising of patientrecords and Read-Coding patient data.

. Attendingtraining and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, whereappropriate.

Confidentiality:-

In the course of seeking treatment, patientsentrust us with or allow us to gather sensitive information in relation totheir health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right toexpect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately.

. In the performance of the duties outlined inthis job description the post holder may have access to confidentialinformation relating to patients and their carers, practice staff and otherhealthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to thePractice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is tobe regarded as strictly confidential.

. Information relating to patients, carers,colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the Practice may onlybe divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies andprocedures relating to confidentiality, GDPR and the protection of personalsensitive data.

The postholder will assist in promoting and maintainingtheir own and others health, safety and security as defined in the PracticeHealth & safety policy to include:

. Using personal security systems within theworkplace according to Practice guidelines

. Identifying the risks involved in workactivities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks.

. Making effective use of training to updateknowledge and skills

. Using appropriate infection control procedures,maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way free from hazards

Experience
  • Experience of working as a GP in a primary care / community setting
Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCGP
  • Full registration with GMC
  • Certification of completion of training (JCPTGP/PMETB)
  • Inclusion on the performers list
