Our Ofsted-registered residential home, offers support for up to 2 young people, aged between 7 and 17, of all sexes, with suspected mental health trauma, educational, sensory, and complex behavioural difficulties (EBD).
Legacy Youth Care is looking to appoint a Residential Support Worker, who will work in our new residential children's home based in NE4 postcode.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIESAs a Residential Support Worker, you will be part of a dynamic team supporting young people with complex needs, some of whom may display challenging behaviours. This is a role for someone who is compassionate, resilient, well organised, and committed to delivering high standards of care. You will act as a corporate parent, always putting the needs and well being of the children first.
We are seeking a passionate, visionary, and tenacious individual to join our dedicated team as a Residential Support Worker. In this key role, you will contribute to the smooth day to day running of the home, support the children directly under the guidance of leadership, and ensure a safe, nurturing, and empowering environment for every young person in our care.
Whilst non contractual and not exhaustive, the following lists the key areas for which the individual is responsible and accountable in the role of Residential Support Worker ('the Applicant') with Legacy Youth Care (LYC) Ltd ('the Employer'). The individual's support is required in developing the job description and role.
You will:- Support the effective daily operations of the home alongside the leadership team.
- Deliver direct care and support to young people as required.
- Provide emotional support during challenging moments, modelling empathy and stability.
- Encourage ambition and help young people set and work toward personal goals.
- Assist with educational development and promote a positive learning environment.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for planning meetings, reviews, and other forums.
- Advocate for the young person in all professional and planning meetings.
- Empower children to participate in decisions about their lives and their futures.
- Participate in activities, social outings, and daily routines and remain diligent.
- Ensure the home is maintained to a high standard of cleanliness, comfort, and safety (including cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping).
- Promote and reinforce positive behaviour through consistent support and encouragement.
- Facilitate contact and communication with families, professionals, and community networks.
- Support social, emotional, and physical development tailored to individual needs.
- Always adhere to Legacy's Safeguarding and Health & Safety procedures during home based activities and external outings.
- Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to a strong, supportive team culture inside and outside the home.
Qualified with Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent): £14.50 p/h (base salary of £28,275 per annum up to £33,675 with up to 10 sleeps per month)
Qualified with Level 2 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent): £14 p/h (base salary of £27,300 per annum up to £32,700 with up to 10 sleeps per month)
Unqualified: £13.50 p/h (base salary of £26,325 per annum up to £31,725 with up to 10 sleeps per month).
Available 8-10 sleep ins a month at £45 paid per sleep.
Permanent, full time position.
Minimum of 37.5 hours per week.
Shifts with and without sleeps ins.
Start of position: TBC.
REQUIREMENTS- Desired Level 3 Health & Social Care or equivalent, or willingness to undertake the study.
- Strong literacy, numeracy, and IT skills, with the ability to write accurate and detailed reports.
- Ability to actively contribute to a positive and effective team environment.
- Respect for confidentiality, with a sound understanding of GDPR and data protection responsibilities.
- Open to giving and receiving constructive feedback from colleagues and managers.
- Familiarity with, and commitment to, implementing individual care plans and supporting colleagues to maintain consistency in their delivery.
- Willingness to offer informal emotional and practical support to peers when needed.
- Knowledge of EBD, SEMH, CSE, and SEN / SEND.
- Engages in regular supervision and reflective practice in line with the National Minimum Standards.
- Understands and adheres to all company policies and procedures.
- Reliable, proactive, and flexible team player who is always ready to support the needs of the home.
- Demonstrates empathy, compassion, and a child centred approach in all interactions.
- Holds a full, clean UK driving licence for at least 12 months and is confident in driving young passengers.
- Must be at least 21 years of age (as required for residential children's care settings).
- Right to work in the UK (we do not offer sponsorship).
- Able and willing to work a rotating shift pattern, including days, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
- Professional, punctual, reliable, and self motivated.
- Able to obtain (or already holds) an Enhanced DBS certificate for working with children, as this is a regulated activity.
- Hours: minimum of 150 hours a month, with shift pattern, 1 day on, 2 days off, with sleep in's.
- Rotas given 4 weeks in advance (we are a 365 day a year service due to the nature of our work).
- Holidays: 5.6 weeks.
