Aspen is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Actuarial Data & Systems Lead to manage and continually enhance our end-to-end reserving data environment. This role plays a central part in ensuring the accuracy, robustness, and reliability of our actuarial data processes across all lines of business during the quarterly reserving cycle.

You will oversee the monthly processing of claims and premiums data, own the design and control of the reserving models and SQL database, and serve as the key liaison between the Group Reserving Team and wider business stakeholders. You'll also lead continuous improvement initiatives, contribute to strategic transformation projects, and ensure the controls and processes meet internal governance and external audit standards.

This is a high-impact role that requires strong technical and communication skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to build trust with cross-functional teams.

Strategy & Planning

  • Own and oversee monthly data processing and quarterly reserving system workflows.
  • Support the transformation of reserving systems in line with business needs and actuarial priorities.
  • Prioritise tasks to ensure the Reserving Team meets quarterly deadlines and deliverables.
  • Ensure systems and models meet audit, SOx, and other governance standards.

Technical & Data Management

  • Act as subject matter expert in reserving SQL database structure, models, and reporting tools.
  • Develop, document, and maintain SQL code used for quarterly reserving outputs.
  • Provide advanced support and reporting for internal and external data requests.
  • Identify, test, and implement improvements in code, models, and reporting systems.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the Group Reserving Team during quarterly reserving.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Claims, IT, and external auditors to ensure data accuracy and control compliance.
  • Train reserving actuaries on the tools available for investigation, analysis, and reporting.
  • Provide walkthroughs to internal and external auditors and respond to technical questions confidently.

Continuous Improvement

  • Solicit and curate feedback from actuaries to improve reserving processes and reporting.
  • Support development of visual analytics and dashboards using tools like Power BI or SSRS.
  • Monitor developments across the business that impact actuarial data or offer improvement opportunities.

Governance & Controls

  • Lead documentation, reconciliations, and control checks for the quarterly reserving exercise.
  • Ensure compliance with Aspen's SOx framework and internal audit timelines.
  • Maintain and improve version control, testing, and change management for reserving systems.

What You'll Bring

  • Strong knowledge of London Market and insurance reserving processes.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server environments and actuarial modelling workflows.
  • Understanding of audit and governance frameworks such as SOx.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of VBA and Microsoft Office automation.

Technical Skills:

  • Intermediate to advanced SQL query writing and debugging.
  • Strong MS Excel user (formulas, data manipulation, automation).
  • Experience using or developing Power BI dashboards or SSRS reports.
  • Ability to explain technical processes to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Experience:

  • Experience in a reserving, actuarial, data analytics, or IT-facing role within the insurance or reinsurance industry.
  • Exposure to large, complex datasets and cross-functional project environments.
  • Familiarity with actuarial systems and quarterly valuation processes is highly advantageous.
