PURPOSE OF THE ROLEThe EastEnders Editorial team are launching a new Researcher Talent Pool. We are looking for people who would be confident delivering accurate, sensitive, and well-sourced research that ensures authenticity and credibility in all storylines. It involves investigating complex social issues, liaising with experts, and maintaining detailed records to uphold editorial standards. By balancing dramatic storytelling with factual accuracy, the Researcher plays a key role in shaping compelling, responsible narratives that reflect real-life experiences.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACTThe Researcher will report to the Senior Researcher and Editorial Producer. Responsibilities will include:
- Investigate and verify facts, procedures, and social issues to ensure authenticity and credibility in scripts and storylines.
- Collaborate with writers, editors, and producers to provide research insights that shape character development and plot consistency.
- Establish and maintain relationships with professionals across various fields to gather accurate information and perspectives.
- Keep comprehensive logs and audit trails of research findings, sources, and communications for editorial transparency.
- Attend story meetings, offer alternative approaches, and provide research-based ideas to enhance narrative depth and realism.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Experience as a Researcher for TV/Radio Drama and/or in other specialised fields, e.g. journalism
- Demonstrable experience of thorough cases studies undertaken reflecting your broadly based knowledge and a familiarity with conventional and specialised sources of information and research techniques Add up to five
- Proven ability in liaising with a wide range of stakeholders, including experts, writers, and producers, with tact and professionalism
- Meticulous in maintaining audit trails, verifying facts, and ensuring continuity across multiple storylines
- An informed interest in television drama production and especially EastEnders
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
- Awareness of television drama production processes and the research support required to tell complex, socially relevant stories
- Experience contributing to story development and offering research-informed ideas in writers' rooms or editorial meetings
